Brockport Service Clubs celebrate bell ringing success

Salvation Army representative Rick Damore (l) is pictured with Lions Club president Charlene Whipple, Rotary Club president Andy Pacitto and Kiwanis president Dan Perry (r) at the annual service clubs joint dinner meeting. Pacitto holds the plaque he received on behalf of Rotary from Salvation Army representative Rick Damore for winning the annual contest to raise the largest amount of money during the Salvation Army's December fundraiser. Brockport Rotarians raised $1,225.00 in their one-day stint in December at three different sites (Wal-Mart, Ames and Ryan's Big M). Kiwanis actually raised about $50 more with the help of their Brockport Central School District Key Club, but the funds were not counted in time. The three clubs and the Key Club raised a total of $3,558.98. Dan Perry, who serves as the Brockport/Spencerport Salvation Army Coordinator, stated that monies earned usually come back to the community to aid the needy. He related several examples of the types of aid that is rendered including shoes for a fire victim to food vouchers for some individuals and families. The annual celebratory dinner meeting for the three service clubs has been a fixture for over 15 years. The friendly rivalry will continue this year with Rotary drawing December 7, Lions December 14 and Kiwanis December 21.
