The following students enrolled at Syracuse University were named to the dean's list for the 2001 fall semester. To qualify for the dean's list, students must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and earn at least a 3.4 grade point average on a 4.0 scale during the semester:
•Matthew Davis of Oakfield. Davis is a sophomore majoring in social work.
•Daniel Hoock of Rochester. Hoock is a sophomore majoring in hospitality and food service management.
•Jennifer Wells of Hilton. She is a sophomore majoring in information management and technology.
•Jeffrey Engelbrecht of Rochester. He is a sophomore majoring in information management and technology.
•Beth Laskoski of Rochester. She is a junior majoring in marketing management.
•Marc Valerio of Rochester. He is a freshman majoring in management.


Emily Ugino, daughter of Richard and Joan Ugino of Hilton, was named to the dean's list for the fall 2001 semester at Saint Michael's College. Ugino is a political science major at the liberal arts, Catholic residential college located in the Burlington area of Vermont.

She graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School.


Brian Howard, a 2001 graduate of Greece Athena High School, was named to the honor roll at Duke University in North Carolina for the fall 2001 semester.

He is the son of Evelyn Howard, who now resides in Stanton Island, New York. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Howard of Spencerport.


Amanda Hastings, a student at Taylor University's Upland campus, was named to the dean's list for the 2001 fall term. She is the daughter of James and Mary Hastings and is a graduate of Brockport High School.

Full-time students are named to the dean's list when they have earned a 3.6 or better GPA for the term and when at least one-half of their hours carry point values.


Laura Brusseau, of Holley, has been named to the dean's list at Daemen College for the fall 2001 semester.

She is pursuing a degree in Spanish teaching certification.


Sandra K. Small, daughter of Jeffrey and Kathryn Small of Chili has been named to the fall 2001 dean's list at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. A sophomore, she is a biology and education major.

To be eligible for the dean's list at St. John Fisher College, a student must have attained at least a 3.3 grade-point average for the semester.

Small is also a service scholar and is required to complete community service. Currently she is fulfilling this requirement by assisting in a first grade classroom in East Rochester.


Erica Smith was selected for induction into the Rho Chi Honorary Pharmacy Society. Selection is based on academic standing, which includes the top 20 percent of the pharmacy class and a GPA of 3.5 or greater. She attends Butler University in Indianapolis and is enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy degree program.

A 1998 graduate of Brockport High School, she is the daughter of Char and Todd Smith of Clarkson.


Jillian Smith has been awarded a $5,000 Blue and Gold Scholarship from West Virginia University. A student at Brockport High School, she has been accepted into the School of Dentistry for the bachelor's in science dental hygiene program for fall 2002.

She resides in Clarkson with her parents, Char and Todd Smith.


Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has announced the names of students who made the Institute's dean's list for the fall semester. The dean's list recognizes full-time students who maintain grade-point averages of a minimum of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 and have no grades below "C."
•Stephen R. DeBellis of Rochester, majoring in computer science.
•Allyn B. Hill of Spencerport, majoring in computer science.
•Lee V. McOmber of Hilton. He is pursuing an undeclared engineering major.
•Vi H. Nguyen of Rochester, majoring in computer & systems engineering.
•Eric J. Russell of Spencerport, majoring in aeronautical engineering.


Maria C. Irizarri has been appointed special agent in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Office in Conyers, Georgia. As a special agent, Irizarri is responsible for assisting local law enforcement agencies in general investigations. Her appointment was effective November 1.

Irizarri began her career in law enforcement in July 2000 as a narcotics agent with the GBI supervised South Georgia Drug Task Force. She remained with the unit until her current appointment.

Irizarri is a 1991 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas Institute in Rochester and has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from SUNY Brockport.

She received her master's degree in criminal justice from Valdosta State University in May 2000.

Irizarri is the daughter of Frank and Lorraine Irizarri of Spencerport.
