Saints boys lose in semi-finals

"Give them credit - they played like they wanted it more than us." Churchville-Chili head coach Rob McCoy was disappointed after a 57-45 loss to Gates Chili in the Class AA semi-final round of the sectional boys basketball playoffs. "We didn’t execute and our offense wasn’t fluid. We had a lot of opportunities to get back in it and it was right in the range that we wanted for points allowed. We just settled on offense for shots that weren’t good for us."

The Saints grabbed the early lead, but the Spartans took over midway through the first quarter and never trailed after that, leading by four points after the first quarter, eight at half-time and ten after three quarters.

Gates Chili hit on seven three-point shots to just two for the Saints. Three players scored in double-figures for the Saints led by Tony Shaw with 15 points. Elijah Reed and Dan Rudd both scored eleven points and Pat Martin added six. All five starters for the Saints are graduating this June. They finished this season with a 15-9 record.
