Bergen Cadette Girl Scout Troop 2205 donates toys

When Cadette Girl Scout Troop 2205 heard about a new church opening in Bergen, they wanted to do something to help. They heard that the new church had been meeting in a Day Care Center in Brockport but now was moving to Bergen and had no toys for the children. They decided to do something about that while fulfilling the requirement for Community Service for the Child Care Interest Project.

Sally Capurso, leader of the troop, brainstormed with the girls as to how they could help. Members, including Jillian Cole, Bobbi Gayle Nelson, Kaitlyn Starowitz, Katie Hammerl, Mallorie Higgins, Kris Lovett, and Kira Capurso, decided to conduct a toy drive. Girls made and put up posters at locations within the Byron-Bergen communities. They cleaned their toy chests and got permission from the Byron-Bergen Middle School authorities to set up a collection box in the Middle School Office. The Transformations Salon and Spa in LeRoy also was a collection spot where monetary donations were collected. They recently donated all the toys to Salmon Creek Community Church's KidZone.

Cindy Anderson, director of KidZone, states, "I was just thrilled. Our children are overjoyed with the abundance of toys the girls provided for our classrooms. We were able to purchase a lot of much needed supplies such as crayons, paste, pencils, etc. with the money. I hope the Girl Scouts will visit Salmon Creek with their parents to see their hard work and contributions being enjoyed. It is wonderful having such community support. Starting a church is a big task and it cannot be accomplished without a lot of people working together. We are grateful to the Girl Scouts."
