Mary E. Johnson has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2001 semester at Nazareth College of Rochester, where she is pursuing a degree in physical therapy.

She is the daughter of Kevin and Marcy Johnson of Trefoil Lane in Brockport and is a 2001 graduate of Brockport High School.


Kimberly A. Hill from Chili has been named a United States National Award Winner in physical education by the United States Achievement Academy.

Hill, who attends Churchville-Chili High School, was nominated for this national award by Coach Nancy Thornton, a teacher and coach at the school. Hill will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, which is published nationally.

Hill is the daughter of Larry and Karlene Hill from Chili. The grandmothers are Marion Hill of Chili and Mildred Hartman of Chili.


Danielle Lashomb of Canal Winchester, Ohio, has been named to the Ohio University dean's list for fall quarter 2001-02. She is a senior majoring in sociology criminology. She is a former Spencerport resident and the daughter of David Lashomb.

To be named to the list, a student must have earned a grade point average of 3.3 or better on a scale of 4.0 (straight As) for the quarter and have earned 16 hours, 12 of which were taken for a letter grade.


Colleen Fenity, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence E. Fenity of Maplewood Avenue in Spencerport, and a student at Hamilton College, performed in the annual spring concert, presented by the Hamilton College Department of Theatre and Dance. The concert featured both contemporary and classical works choreographed by Hamilton dance professors.

Fenity, a senior majoring in English and dance at Hamilton, is a graduate of Ellsworth J. Wilson Senior High School, Spencerport.


Sheena Louise McMillan of Holley, has been named to the dean's list at SUNY Geneseo.

She is a junior majoring in history.


Hartwick College freshman Rose T. Boucher, of Hamlin, daughter of Katherine Boucher and Lawrence Boucher, has been named to the fall term dean's list at Hartwick College.

Boucher is majoring in art. At Hartwick, she has participated in Anthropology Club.


Hartwick College junior Susan J. Pelo, of Churchville, daughter of Carol Marie M. Pelo and Edward A. Pelo, has been named to the fall term dean's list at Hartwick College.

Pelo is majoring in political science. At Hartwick, she has participated in Women's Varsity Swimming and Diving, Student Senate, Student Union, Big Brother/Big Sister Program, Champs and Alpha Omicron Pi.


Robert Valet, a 1997 graduate of Brockport High School, and currently a medical student at Vanderbilt University, will be participating in a medical mission trip to Cuzco, Peru this summer. The missionaries will provide free medical care to indigent residents of Cuzco, a city of 300,000.

Located in the Andes Mountains at over 11,000 feet altitude, Cuzco is generally regarded as the oldest continually inhabited city in the Americas. Cuzco has been occupied for over 3,000 years, and has been home to the Incas and their descendants since the 12th century.

Roberts Wesleyan College Nursing Honor Society, seeking to become a part of a chapter-at-large of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, has inducted the following local members: Barbara Flynn, Lori Gonyo, Denise Goodberlet, Jessica Heckman, Susan Hunter, Cheryl Knowles, Diane Krause, Cheryl Long, Sandra (Sam) Brzoza, Nicole Mercier, Diana Page, Wendy Soules, Donna Stephenson, Melissa Stotts, and Rebecca Yates.


Erica Reichardt, a freshman journalism major from Hilton, was named to West Virginia University's fall 2001 dean's list.


Melissa Parmele, of Holley, daughter of Linda Parmele and the late Edward Parmele, has been accepted to Edinboro University. She attends Holley High School.

•Wendy Marie Zingaro, of Hilton, is a psychology major.


Air Force Airman Jason R. Blanchard has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of Debbie and John Blanchard of Geddes Street, Holley and a 2001 graduate of Holley High School.


Former local resident promoted

Marine Lt. Col. Lewis E. Wood was promoted to his current rank on March 1, 2002 while serving as the executive officer in the second low altitude air defense battalion at Cherry Point, North Carolina. Wood, a 1982 graduate of Holley Central High School and a 1986 graduate of the University of Rochester, has been a commissioned officer for 16 years. He is the son of Lawrence Wood of Clarendon and the late Lola Wood.

Wood, who served in Lebanon and Operation Desert Shield, began his career in Yuma, Arizona in the second light anti-aircraft battalion, the unit in which he served while in the Persian Gulf. Wood has completed three tours of duty in Okinawa, Japan. Prior to his current assignment, Wood was an instructor at the Command and Control Systems School at Quantico, Virginia.

Lt. Col. Wood has been selected to attend the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California where he will earn an MBA. He and his wife, Leigha, and their daughters, Mackenzie and Ryleigh, will move to California in May. Wood is the brother of Leisa (David) Strabel and Lon (Erika) Wood of Brockport.
