Senator George Maziarz announces
intersection of Routes 104 and 272
targeted for signage improvements

The state Department of Transportation has completed its review of the intersection of Route 104 and Route 272 (Monroe-Orleans County Line Road) in the Town of Clarkson and recommended the installation of new, more visible signage.

"Since October, three lives have been claimed at this dangerous intersection," said Maziarz. "I wish to thank the DOT for their prompt response to my office's request that they evaluate the safety of this intersection. Hopefully these improvements will help to prevent serious accidents and fatalities in the future.

Dual stop signs and stop ahead signs will be posted on Route 272 with extra large 36" signs in both the northbound and southbound directions. Installation of these signs will begin as soon as possible.

The second phase of this project includes the installation of flashing beacons on the stop signs for northbound and southbound traffic. These beacons will also be placed on the intersection warning signs for eastbound and westbound traffic on Route 104 to heighten driver awareness at the intersection. This phase of the project is scheduled for this summer.

Clarkson Town Supervisor Paul Kimball said, "I sincerely appreciate Senator Maziarz for his responsiveness to this pressing public safety concern. His efforts in relaying our concerns to the DOT resulted in the study indicating the need for improved safety measures at this intersection and I join area residents and motorists in looking forward to this project's completion."
