Spencerport High School students donated $1,000 to PAVE, People Against Violence Everywhere, as part of the "Reach for Peace" mural dedication ceremony on March 5. Randy Everett of PAVE received the check on behalf of the organization. The peace mural is painted in the main hallway in the high school.

The idea for the project came after the terrorist attacks on September 11, when many people in the building wanted to find a way for students to express themselves and show their support for America. A major part of the fund raising effort was the creation of the mural. Students chose the design by "voting" with their money, an idea presented to Spencerport High School's Student Government by art teacher Kelly Deitz and English teacher Marsha Hinman. Money was also donated by the Boys Soccer Program and the Spencerport High School Bookstore.

Anthony Guzzeta, one of the student government advisors, says the students are grateful to everyone who contributed to this project. "It could not have been done alone," he says. "It is truly a community project that will last on the walls of the building for many years to come. It is a reminder of the brave men and women who lost their lives during one of our country's most tragic events."
