Senior Citizen Police Academy tours the Monroe County Sheriff’s Zone C Headquarters in Chili

Senior Citizen Police Academy participants toured the Monroe County Sheriff’s Zone C Headquarters in Chili March 14. The group of residents from the across the county learned about equipment such as the breathalizer which Deputy Dan Lyon is demonstrating at right. Deputy Dan Phelps explained the law enforcement unit’s scale truck which can monitor equipment violations on commercial trucks. The Senior Citizen Police Academy program at Zone C was designed by deputies Tom Mancarella, Dan Lyon and Jim Irene. The next session begins April 25. Meeting at various venues including the Police and Fire Academy on Scottsville Road, Zone C and other sites, the eight week program was developed to educate the public as well as improve safety. Seniors also learn hints such as the importance of keeping records about personal and home property as well as aspects of law enforcement working together: officer training, the role of the sheriff, jury and judge and safe driving. Call Zone C for information on enrolling in the next session -- 594-1470. Photographs for Westside News Inc. by Walter Horylev.
