Erica Reichardt, a freshman journalism major from Hilton, was named to the West Virginia University's fall 2001 dean's list. Undergraduates who take 12 hours or more of graded classes and earn a 3.5-3.9 GPA, with no incompletes, qualify for the dean's list.


Students who earned Black Belts from the Caparco Karate, Iai and Aiki Jujutsu Dojo include Haley Bissonnette - earned a junior Black Belt in karate; Katharine Kalamaroff - earned a Nidan 2nd degree Black Belt in karate; and Clayton Stieve - earned a Black Belt in Aiki jujutsu.


Crystal Lynn Miller of Hilton was named to the 2002 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."

She is a student at Gannon University.


Drew Woodbridge, of Lycoming College, was part of the original children's play "Bunnies On Broadway." The play, written and directed by Professor Jaye Beetem of Lycoming College's theater department, is a spoof in which Benjamin Bunny decides to forego the family business of being an Easter bunny for a chance at the bright lights of Broadway. "Bunnies on Broadway" premiered at Lycoming's Mary L. Welch Theatre. Woodbridge, a resident of Spencerport, is a theater major.


Jeffrey McFiggins, of Brockport, has been named to the dean's list for the winter quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A fifth-year student in RIT's Kate Gleason College of Engineering, he is studying electrical engineering. He is the son of Dennis and Madeline McFiggins of Brockport and is a 1997 graduate of Brockport High School.


Area residents have been awarded scholarships from Alfred State College.

Anthony Andolina of Rochester was awarded a $500 "Max and Marian Farash Scholarship."
Andolina is slated to graduate in 2002 from Spencerport High School and intends to enroll in the mechanical engineering technology program.

Amy Pshchierer of Rochester was awarded a $500 "Russo Family Scholarship." Pshchierer is slated to graduate in 2002 from Churchville-Chili Senior High School and intends to enroll in the computer art and design program.

The "Max and Marian Farash Scholarship" was established by Max and Marian Farash to assist students with an opportunity to pursue their education. The students selected exhibit scholarship and creativity in the heating and air conditioning field of mechanical engineering technology.

The "Russo Family Scholarship" is awarded based on academic achievement and is made possible through the generosity of the Russo Family Foundation.


Bill Howard, Prudential K.A.R.E.S., was named winner of the Chairman's Circle Gold Award for 2001, by The Prudential Real Estate Affiliates, Inc., during the company's Annual Sales Convention held in New Orleans, LA, March 2002.

The award recognizes sales professionals who sold $240,000-$499,999 in closed residential gross commission income (GCI), commercial GCI, or 70-99 closed residential units for the year - out of the more than 42,000 Prudential Real Estate sales professionals and 1,585 offices. It was presented during special awards ceremonies at the convention, which was attended by real estate sales professionals from the United States and Canada.

Bill Howard joined Prudential K.A.R.E.S. in 1984. Prior to winning The Chairman's Circle Gold Award, he has also won the Sales Master Platinum Residential award, and the Commercial Sales Master Gold Award.


Army National Guard Pvt. Christopher J. Cappetta has graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Knox, Kentucky, which consisted of basic military training and advanced individual training (AIT).

Cappetta is the son of Sandra M. and Salvatore J. Cappetta of Trimmer Road, Spencerport and a 2001 graduate of Spencerport High School.


Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Michael R. Massar, son of Lois A. Massar of Hilton and Gary M. Massar of Rochester, recently graduated from the Close-In Weapons System Operation and Maintenance Course while assigned to the Fleet Combat Training Center Atlantic, Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Massar went through 27 weeks of intensive training, learning how to operate and maintain the Phalanx Close-In Weapons System, a rapid fire gun used on ships as the last line of defense against anti-ship missiles and other security threats. He is a 1998 graduate of Greece Athena High School of Rochester and joined the Navy in April 2000.
