Nesbitt elected Assembly Republican Leader

State Assemblyman Charlie Nesbitt (R,C-Albion) was elected Assembly Republican Leader at a special leadership election in the State Capitol March 25. Nesbitt, 54, a former small businessman and a five-term Assemblyman, drew votes from both upstate and downstate members in his majority among the 53-member Republican Conference. He will succeed Assembly Republican Leader John J. Faso (R-Kinderhook), who is leaving the post on April 8.

"I am humbled and honored to have been chosen by my fellow Republican col-leagues to serve as the leader of our conference," said Nesbitt, the Chairman of the Republican Assembly Campaign Committee (RACC) and former Deputy Assembly Republican Leader.

Nesbitt, a decorated Vietnam War Veteran, served in the U.S. armed forces for 10 years and was a pilot in an assault helicopter company.

The father of six children, Nesbitt and his wife, Kim, reside in the Town of Albion, Orleans County. He represents the 137th District, which includes parts of Monroe, Genesee and Orleans Counties.
