Boys and Girls State representatives

One of the prime objectives of the American Legion is to promote Americanism, patriotism and youth activities. The Harvey C. Noone Post 954, the Past Commanders Club and the Auxiliary Unit endorse the annual New York State Legion's Boys State and Girls State Programs. American Legion Posts and their Auxiliary Units from across the state select candidates to attend these five-day programs. Boys State is held at Morrisville College in Morrisville and Girls State at Union College in Schenectady.

The program is designed to enhance the attendees' overall knowledge of the values in patriotism, respect for others' opinions, cooperative effort, how government should function, discipline, the qualities of leadership and respect for God and Country.

Noone Post members interviewed candidates taking into consideration character, academics, leadership, ability to get along with others and personality.

This year 10 boys were interviewed as potential representatives to the Boys State Program. Noone Post and its Past Commanders Club will sponsor Marc Stowe, Ashley Todd Simms and Tim Schroth from CCCS to the 2002 program.

The Noone Post Auxiliary also went through the process in selecting their representative for the Girls State Program. Their representative will be Jamie Ponicsan, a senior at CCCS.

Interviewers from the Post and Auxiliary said that representative selection was extremely difficult since all of the candidates were exceptional. The Noone Post family is proud to sponsor these students from CCCS.

In addition, Law Enforcement Post will pick up sponsorship of George Kueppers for Boys State and Robert Shaw Post Auxiliary will sponsor Nicole Stich to Girls State. Both are CCCS seniors and were interviewed by the Noone units and selected for the above units.
