International Art Show to be held April 12-14

The 4th annual IACC International Art Show will showcase art from Italy and other countries by renowned artists such as Domenico Fera, Maria Luisa Belcastro, Andrea Valere and Franco Aguggiaro.

Participating artists from the Rochester and surrounding areas will compete for cash awards. In addition, the show will feature photography by Dr. Ester Denaro Maltese, artwork by Mary Jean Gasbarre, and paintings by deceased artist Rino Mascadri.

Local artist Cav. Giovanni Sanfilippo continues to be chairperson of the event. Artists Wayne Scheible, Charles Avallone, Peter Botsis and Al Vergona, along with a number of volunteers, worked on a committee to plan the program.

The event will take place at the IACC, 150 Marconi Boulevard, off Manitou Road in Gates. The SoHo-style exhibit will be held on Friday, April 12 through Sunday, April 14.

This annual show provides local artists with an opportunity to display their special talents to the community, while, at the same time, competing for one of three cash awards. Stephen Argento, director of the Ramon Santiago Studio, has agreed to be the judge of this year's event. On average, 40 different artist participate annually.

To launch the opening of the exhibit, a complimentary reception with refreshments will be held on Friday, April 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. At the reception, the artists will be available to mingle with the public and answer questions regarding their art pieces. The exhibit will continue on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

To help finance the show, the art committee is seeking contributions from individuals and local businesses.

For the first time this year, the committee was able to establish the IACC Arts and Cultural Institute Scholarship for the Arts. This scholarship is dedicated to a high school student of merit who seeks to continue his or her studies in the arts. Committee members Ed and Philomena Mascadri funded this year's $500 scholarship in memory of their deceased father, who loved painting as a hobby. A private family collection of Rino Mascadri's works will be shown at the exhibit.

The community at large is invited to attend this cultural event free of charge. For information, call the IACC at (585) 594-8882.
