Kendall church celebrates a restored treasure

In the year 1912, Concordia Lutheran Church in Kendall purchased a two manual Morey pipe organ at a cost of $1,000, no small sum at that time. In recent years, after accompanying that congregation in countless hymns, the organ was sounding old and tired and parishioners decided something had to be done. Concordia found itself in the position of having to decide whether to restore their pipe organ, or replace it with a new electronic model.

Concordia began to raise funds as they went through the research and discussion necessary for their decision. Finally, late last year a vote was taken. Concordia would stand by their treasured organ. It was decided to restore the organ that had served them so well for almost ninety years.

Parsons Organ Builders of Canandaigua was contracted for the work. The work included replacing pedal contacts, rebuilding the tremulant, installing a new blower, adding a static wind regulator, and cleaning, revoicing, and painting the pipes. The total cost was over $40,000, but the people of Concordia are thrilled with the results. The organ once again looks and sounds like the treasure that they always knew it to be.

There will be a Dedication Service celebrating the restoration of the organ on April 28, beginning at 3 p.m. The service is open to all who wish to come. A reception will follow the service in Concordia's Parish Hall.
