Chris Vito, 2001 Churchville-Chili graduate, has been named to the fall dean's list at SUNY Brockport. Vito is a freshman majoring in journalism.


Melissa Waddell, of Brockport, has been named to the dean's list for the second quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. Waddell is studying animation. The daughter of Marilee and Jerry Waddell of Brockport, she is a 2001 graduate of Aquinas Institute High School.


Nazareth College in Rochester is proud to announce that the following students have been named to the dean's list for the fall semester: Sarah L. Andre of Hilton, a psychology major; Denise C. Mahns of Hilton, a French major; Victoria M. Tenny of Hilton, undeclared major.


The following students received their degrees from SUNY Geneseo in December: Melissa Beth Cloutier of Spencerport, earned a bachelor of arts degree in English - secondary education certification 7-12; Kimberly Rachele Debski of Brockport, earned a bachelor of science education degree in elementary education; Mindy Sue Johnston of Churchville, earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry - secondary and general science certification.


Local resident Matthew Dudek was awarded a John Dickinson Scholarship from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. A student at Brockport High School, he is the son of Gary and Ann Dudek of Bergen.


Paul J. Blackcloud, a Dartmouth College senior from Churchville, has been cited for outstanding academic achievement during the winter term of 2002. Blackcloud, the son of Kristine and Claude Blackcloud of Churchville, was cited for outstanding work in a college course.


Trisha McCormick, of Hilton, has been named to the dean's list for the winter quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A first-year student in RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, McCormick is studying in the computer science program. McCormick is the daughter of William and Cathleen McCormick of Hilton and is a 2001 graduate of Hilton Central High School.


Kira Mikels, of Hilton, has been named to the dean's list for the fall and winter quarters at Rochester Institute of Technology. A first-year student in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering, she is studying mechanical engineering. Mikels is the daughter of Bill and Nancy Mikels and is a 2001 graduate of Hilton High School.


Kari Levofsky, of Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list for the fall and winter quarters at Rochester Institute of Technology. A first-year student in the College of Science, she is studying biology. Levofsky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Giles of Spencerport, is a 2001 graduate of Spencerport High School.


The following student was honored at the Programs Rooted in Developing Excellence (PRIDE) Program for academic excellence in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University. Mary Snyder of Brockport, is a senior majoring in electrical engineering.

Richard Starke, of North Chili, has been selected for inclusion in the 2002 edition of "Who's Who Among America's Teachers." This is the second time in his 15 year teaching career that he has been chosen. High school and college students, who have been cited for academic excellence themselves, are invited to nominate one teacher from their entire educational experience for this honor.


Ashley Erin Horey, of Dunbar Road, Hilton, has been named to the dean's list for the winter quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A first-year student in RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, Horey is studying in the information technology program. She is the daughter of Robert and Jean Horey of Dunbar Road and is a 2001 graduate of Hilton High School.


Sara Edeiken, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tracy S. Lincoln of Oriole Street in Rochester, and a student at Hamilton College, began the 2002 spring season as a member of the Hamilton Crew team. Crew, which became an intercollegiate sport in 1998, is the most recent addition to Hamilton College athletics. Since that time, both the men and women's teams have shown steady improvement. Last spring, the women's varsity 8+ placed 16th at the Champions Regatta in Georgia, tying their best finish. The men's varsity 4+ placed 10th out of 18 boats, finishing better than schools such as Michigan State University and the University of Alabama.

Edeiken, a junior majoring in biochemistry at Hamilton, is a graduate of Hilton Central High School.


Joan Greeno, Associate Broker of Nothnagle Realtor's Chili/Ogden office, was honored with the salesperson of the month award for the month of February, according to Robert K. Malone, branch manager. Salesperson of the month is based on the highest volume of sales for that month.

During her 18 years of service with Nothnagle, Joan has received numerous other awards and designations, including Lister of the Month, the "Pinnacle Award," which is awarded by the Rochester Women's Council of Realtors for outstanding commitment and service to customers, Greater Rochester Association of Realtors Sales Master Gold Award, Chili/Ogden's "Top 10 Award" and Nothnagle's coveted "Top 25" award out of 525 agents in the company, for each of the last four consecutive years. A Broker Associate and notary, Greeno works primarily in residential sales, including single and multi-family homes, condominiums, townhomes and investment properties. She also has extensive experience in new home construction and relocation services. She also served as manager of the Chili/Ogden office during the mid 90s.

As an active member of Pearce Memorial Church in North Chili, Greeno has served on several committees as well as being a former trustee. She resides in Chili with her husband, Larry, who is vice president for Planned Giving at Roberts Wesleyan College. She has four grown children and seven grandchildren.


Department of the Army Civilian Douglas W. Owens has graduated from the Sustaining Base Leadership and Management program at the Army Management Staff College, Fort Belvoir, Fairfax, Virginia.

Owens is a logistics program officer with the Logistics Integration Agency in Alexandria, Virginia.
He is the son of Nancy Owens of Hilton.


Matthew J. Flagg has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.

Flagg, a 1994 graduate of Hilton High School will report to Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina for basic training.

He is the son of Eileen M. Snyder of Brockport and Charles Flagg of Darien Center.


Navy Chief Petty Officer Paul J. Mackanos, III, son of Rose M. Mackanos of Fourth Section Road, Brockport, and Paul J. Mackanos, Jr. of Sumac Way, Fairport, was promoted to his current rank while serving aboard the submarine, USS Greeneville, homeported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Mackanos was promoted based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty.

Mackanos is a 1988 graduate of Brockport Central High School and joined the Navy in May 1991.
