becomes career leader in wins

St. John Fisher College softball pitcher Marti Hawkins (Spencerport) became the college's all-time leader in wins April 11.

Hawkins gave up seven hits and struck out three in Fisher's 7-1 win over host University of Rochester on Thursday to earn the 40th win of her collegiate career, breaking the old mark of 39 victories, set by Hilton's Danene Sneddon '99.

This season, the senior has a 7-0 record, including two shutout-wins. Hawkins also has a 1.30 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 43 innings of action.

For her career, Hawkins owns a 40-15-1 record and a 1.98 ERA. She also ranks as Fisher's career leader in strikeouts with 174.

"Marti is a competitor that has worked very hard over the last four years and I'm glad to see her achieve this milestone," says head coach Len Maiorani, who boasts a career record of 335-152-3 and has Fisher nationally-ranked for the first time. "We have a lot of games left and hopefully Marti is going to be able to earn some more wins."
