The Northern Lights District Award of Merit, the most prestigious honor a district can give, will be presented to four local Boy Scout leaders who have been chosen for their noteworthy service to youth through leadership of western Monroe County Scout units. Presentation will occur at the Otetiana Council annual recognition dinner on May 20.

Honorees include Scoutmasters Kenneth Rombaut of Brockport Rotary Club Troop 111, Sean Glenney of Chili First Presbyterian Church Troop 275, Douglas Hall of St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church Troop 278, and Committeeman Jose Lopez of John Knox Presbyterian Church Troop 197. Rombaut has been Scoutmaster of a National Jamboree troop, has coordinated district activities and training programs, and served the Brockport Fire Department both as president and as chief. Glenney served as Assistant Scoutmaster of a Jamboree troop, is an Emergency Medical Technician and volunteer firefighter, and chaired the district's Family Friends of Scouting enrollment effort this year. Hall is a 20 year veteran Scouter who has served as a Cubmaster, merit badge counselor and as the district's Community Friends of Scouting chairman. He is currently the chair of its finance committee. Lopez has served as a Webelos Den Leader, Cubmaster, and for seven years as unit popcorn sales chairman. He was the district's Popcorn Kernel for three years, active in the promotion of popcorn sales.

Named as Cub Scout Leader of the Year was Edie (Mrs. Mark)Arlauckas of Scottsville, Webelos Den Leader of Smith Warren Post American Legion Pack 140, a nine year veteran leader, who has served on District and Council committees, and is an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 140. She volunteers at the T. J. Connor Elementary School and is active in the religious education program at Scottsville Presbyterian Church.

Named as Boy Scout Leader of the Year was Robert Jones, Assistant Scoutmaster and Charter Representative of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church Troop 277 in Greece. He has been involved in Scouting since 1994 when his son became a Tiger Cub in Pack 277, and he has been coordinator of the troop's summer camping program for the past four summers.

Northern Lights District serves youth in all Monroe County towns west of the Genesee and the Charlotte area of Rochester.
