Wright scores twice as Blue Devils win

Senior Jenna Wright scored two runs while Kellie Wright and Erin Briener each knocked in a run as Brockport defeated Hilton 5-4 on a sunny but chilly April 23.

Hilton manufactured a 1-0 in the first inning on Courtney Reimble’s lead off single, an error, a fielder’s choice and a passed ball. The Blue Devils took a 2-1 lead in the second inning with Jamie Hugelmaier leading off with an infield single, singles by Jenna Wright, Colleen Russell, Kellie Wright and a wild pitch.

The Cadets evened the score at 2-2 in the fourth inning when Laurie Volkmar doubled to center, went to third on Staci Weidert sacrifice attempt which eluded the first baseman allowing Volkmar to score.

Brockport opened up a three-run lead in the fourth on just two singles sandwiched around a walk, two stolen bases, an error and Briener’s RBI single. Hilton made it close with two runs of their own in the seventh inning and the tying run at first base before relief pitcher Shannon Connors struck out one batter and forced a pop-up to two of the last three batters to pick up the save. Starting pitcher Bethany Dragert registered the win after tossing the first four innings.

Brockport improved their record to 3-0 with the win and the busy part of the season to come as all teams attempt to make up dates lost to bad weather.
