Tanya Burns, of Holley, has been named May Lakeside Employee of the Month. Burns began at Lakeside almost two years ago as a secretary in the Care Center and has since been recognized as the Long Term Care/Performance Improvement Coordinator Associate.

Burns was nominated for her exceptional computer skills and her willing and positive attitude.


Spencerport resident Sarah M. Taber, a Northeastern University student majoring in psychology, was named to the university's dean's list for the winter quarter 2002. To achieve this distinction, students must carry a full program, have a quality point average of 3.25 or greater out of a possible 4.0 and carry no grade lower than a C.


Local residents will be candidates for baccalaureate degrees at SUNY Oswego's 141st Commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 18.

The following residents are eligible to participate in the graduation ceremonies:

From Bergen, Melissa A. Urban, with a degree in graphic design, cum laude.

From Churchville, Danielle L. Dumrese, with a business administration degree.

From Hamlin, Trisha A. McDade, with a degree in elementary education; Michele L. Sweeney, with a marketing degree; and John E. Turbeville, with a degree in secondary education, cum laude.

From Spencerport, Jodi L. Luedemann, with a biology degree.


Adrienne Smith, a member of the class of 2002 at Gettysburg College and resident of Spencerport, participated in a service-learning project in Leon, Nicaragua in early January.


Andrew Woodbridge, a senior theatre major, was recently honored for special achievements at the Lycoming College Honors Convocation.

Woodbridge received the Arena Theatre Technical Award given for outstanding contribution to technical art as a theatre major. He is a resident of Spencerport.


Nate Emmerson, son of Bruce and Debbie Emmerson of Brockport, was named treasurer and vice president of the Denison Community Association at Denison University.

Emmerson, a 2001 graduate of Brockport High School, is a first-year student at Denison. He is a dean's list student and a member of the honor's program and the Denison Jazz Ensemble.


Shea Stenglein, daughter of William and Denise Stenglein of Churchville, was recognized at Allegheny College's Ninth Annual Leadership Awards Banquet. Stenglein received the Circle Award, which is presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated dedication and ongoing commitment to numerous diverse organizations.

Stenglein, a 2000 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, is a sophomore psychology major at Allegheny College.


Maureen Carroll of Spencerport, a senior majoring in photography in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University, was among the students whose photographs were exhibited in the Art Media Studies Senior Photography Annual held recently on the Syracuse University campus.

This annual show encourages seniors majoring in photography in the Art Media Studies Department to display a diverse sampling of their work to the Syracuse University and greater Syracuse communities.


Richard Ugino of Hilton, a sophomore majoring in musical theater in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University, performed in the Syracuse University Drama Department's production of "The Man of LaMancha." Ugino played Muleteer Paco in the play.


Robin Kirk, of Hilton, was inducted into Sigma Beta Delta, the International Honor Society in Business, Management and Administration. She was also one of the recipients of The Anderson Paramount/Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation Award given to student employees.

Kirk attends SUNY Brockport and is majoring in business with a concentration in finance.

The daughter of Duane and Loretta Kirk of Hilton, she is a 1999 graduate of Hilton Central High School.


Angela DeFelice has been included among the 61 undergraduate students from Ithaca College named to the 2002 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."

Campus nominating committees and editors of the Who's Who annual directory selected these outstanding leaders from a national pool. Selection was based upon high academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extra-curricular activities, and potential for continued success. Nominees were required to earn and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average for consideration.

DeFelice, a senior, is a planned studies major in not-for-profit administration, with minors in both social work and women's studies, at the School of Humanities and Sciences. Consistently on the dean's list, she was previously inducted into the Oracle honor society and awarded both Emerson and Student Government scholarships. President of the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity, she has also been active with the Community Service Network and Community Plunge program.

A graduate of Byron-Bergen High School, DeFelice is a permanent resident of Peachey Road, Bergen.


David Hartung has been accepted into the honors program of the School of Engineering at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. He has received the Dean of Engineering's Scholarship to study Electrical Engineering.

Hartung will graduate in June 2002 from Churchville-Chili High School. He is the son of Jim and Pat Hartung of Osage Trail in Ogden.


Elaine Loggi of West Avenue, Hilton, was inducted into the Oracle Society, Ithaca College's honor society which recognizes outstanding achievement during the student's freshman year.

She is a performance/ music education major and a Hilton High School graduate.


Emily Liu, of Snowberry Crescent, Rochester, was inducted into the Oracle Society, Ithaca College's honor society which recognizes outstanding achievement during the student's freshman year.

She is a journalism/ politics major and a graduate of Spencerport High School.


Carrie J. Coleman graduated from the Virginia Beach Police Academy in Virginia Beach, Virginia in January 2002. Coleman is now an officer with the Virginia Beach Police Department.

She is a graduate of Byron-Bergen High School and is also a graduate of SUNY College at Brockport where she majored in Criminal Justice.

Coleman is the daughter of Donald and Debra Coleman of Bergen.


Four students from SUNY College at Brockport have received the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence 2002 in an April 17 ceremony in Albany. State University of New York Chancellor Robert L. King recognized nearly 200 of the University's most outstanding students. In all, 187 recipients from 56 State University campuses, representing six foreign counties and eight states, were honored with the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.

The SUNY Brockport students honored are: Matthew Giblin, a physical education major with concentrations in athletic training and exercise physiology. He is a member of the Alpha Chi and Phi Epsilon Kappa honor societies.

Tobias Petros, who is majoring in business management and pre-law. He is a member of the Reserve Officer Training Corps on campus and has been recognized for exemplary leadership by the U.S. Army.

Nicole Szwejbka, an earth sciences major who is pursuing her certification in elementary education. She is a student in SUNY Brockport's Delta College and a member of the Alpha Chi Honors Society.

Pheomany Vandy, who has a major in nursing. She is a member of the Alpha Chi and Phi Theta Kappa honor societies, and the Omicron Beta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, a honor society.

These students have 3.82 grade point average. In addition, candidates for the Chancellor's Award must have demonstrated significant contributions to the greater campus community.

The awards were presented at a ceremony at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. Each student received a framed certificate and a medallion that may be worn at commencement.


Courtney Weins of Dunbar Road, Hilton, is serving in the Syracuse University Literacy Corps.

Weins is a sophomore majoring in public relations in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

The Syracuse University Literacy Corps is a service learning experience that mobilizes Syracuse students to mentor and tutor students at elementary and secondary schools in the Syracuse City School District, Lafayette Central School District and community-based organizations. During the academic year, more than 150 Syracuse students tutor an average of 10 hours per week.


Deena Powell, Lyman Street, Brockport, is serving in the Syracuse University Literary Corps.

Powell is a senior majoring in psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences.

After successfully completing five weeks of schooling and training at the Airline Academy in Daytona, Florida, Amanda Wohlers has been hired as a flight attendant by Piedmont Airlines, U.S. Air Express. She will be traveling to Maryland for additional training on May 13.

Wohlers is a 2001 graduate of Holley High School and the daughter of Steve and Linda Wohlers of Clarendon.


Adrian Daniels of Shady Oaks Trail, Spencerport, has been named to the SUNY All-Star Baseball Team. The SUNY All-Stars will compete in an international tournament against teams from Japan, South Korea, and Russia. The tournament will take place in Moscow from June 24 through July 1. In preparation for this tournament, the team will participate in a three day All-Star camp which will be held at SUNY Farmingdale from June 20-June 23.

The SUNY All-Star Baseball Team is comprised of players from NCAA Divisions I and III and NJCAA programs throughout the State University. Over 80 players were nominated for consideration with 21 players and five alternatives selected to represent SUNY.


Sandy Blonsky, Broker Associate of Re/Max First Greece Office, was awarded the Sales Master Gold Award by her peers in The Greater Rochester Association of Realtors.

This award is achieved based on 60 closed transactions or $6 million in closed sales in a 12 month period and by the Women's Council of Realtors, Breakfast of Champions with the Zenith Award.

Blonsky has been a realtor for over 17 years. She is a part of the "Terri Granger & Sandy Blonsky All Star Team" and resides in the village of Hilton.


Terri Granger, Broker Associate, of Re/Max First Greece Office, was awarded the Zenith Award by the Women's Council of Realtors at the Breakfast of Champions and the Sales Master Gold Award by her peers in The Greater Rochester Association of Realtors. This award is achieved based on 60 closed transactions or $6 million in closed sales in a 12 month period.

Granger is in her 17th year in the Real Estate sales and specializes in residential and new home construction. She is a part of the "Sandy Blonsky & Terri Granger All Star Team" and resides in the Parma area.


Army Reserve Pfc. Jason M. Nauerth-Bell has graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Missouri.

During training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions.

Nauerth-Bell is the son of Cheryl and Donald Bell of Hilton.

The private is a 1999 graduate of Hilton Central High School.
