Colleen Fenity, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence E. Fenity of Maplewood Avenue in Spencerport, was named the recipient of the Senior Prize in Dance at Hamilton College's annual Class and Charter Day, held on May 10.

The Senior Prize in Dance is awarded to the outstanding senior concentrator in dance.

Fenity is a senior majoring in English and dance at Hamilton, and is a graduate of Ellsworth J. Wilson Senior High School.


Jamie Giovannini from Spencerport, has been named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement

The USAA has established the All-American Scholar Award Program to offer deserved recognition to superior students who excel in academic disciplines. Only scholars selected by a school instructor, counselor, or other qualified sponsor are accepted. These scholars are also eligible for other awards given by the USAA.

Abby Duncan nominated Jamie Giovannini, who attends Churchville-Chili Middle School, for this national award.

Giovannini will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook, which is published nationally.

Jamie Giovannini is the daughter of John and Janice Giovannini of Spencerport.


Jodi Luedemann of Spencerport, graduated cum laude from SUNY Oswego on May 18, 2002, with a bachelor of science degree in biology, with a minor in forensic science.

She plans to further her education towards a graduate degree of master of forensic science with a concentration in forensic molecular biology.


Sara Nowakowski of Brockport graduated May 18, 2002 from SUNY Brockport with a bachelor of science degree in psychology.

She is a member of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society and also a member of the Psi Chi National Psychology Society. She graduated summa cum laude.

She is the daughter of Gary and Christine Nowakowski of Hilton and a graduate of Hilton High School.


The Ashland University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) outdoor championships on Friday-Saturday, May 3-4. This year's GLIAC meet was held in Midland, Michigan and hosted by Northwood University. Ashland's top performer from this area is Jason Dahlman of Spencerport/Aquinas Institute. He captured a conference championship in the pole vault (16-2.75). This is Dahlman's second outdoor championship, he won the pole vault in 2000 and was the league runnerup in 2001. Dahlman will be at the national meet, competing in the pole vault.


Danielle M. Battisti, a junior at Colgate University, has been named a Dana Scholar in recognition of superior academic achievement and demonstrated leadership in the campus community.

Selection as a Dana Scholar is a significant honor, "perhaps the most significant after Phi Beta Kappa," according to Michael A. Cappeto, dean of the college. The awards were established in 1965 by the late Charles A. Dana.

She is the daughter of Michael and Sherry D. Battisti, Spencerport.


Kelly Lynn Nowakowski, Hilton, has graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor of science degree in marketing. Nowakowski studied in RIT's Department of Marketing, College of Business.

She is the daughter of Gary and Christine Nowakowski of Hilton and a 1998 graduate of Nazareth Academy High School.

She has been the secretary of the American Marketing Association at RIT and she was the advertising manager of the school newspaper, "The Reporter."


Melissa Shane, daughter of John and Karen Shane of Hilton, has earned her associate's degree in veterinary technology at Medaille College in Buffalo. She has accepted a position at Laurelton Animal Hospital.


Meghann S. Pratt of Spencerport and a graduate of Spencerport High School, has been accepted for the fall 2002 at SUNY College at Brockport. She tentatively plans to major in physical education/coaching.

In high school, she was a National Honor Society member, captain of Girls' Swim Team and received a NYSPHSAA Scholar/Athlete Award. Her parents are Barbara and Ken Pratt.

Seniors from every high school in Monroe County and the City of Rochester will be honored at a ceremony Thursday, May 23 at Cooper Hall at SUNY Brockport.

Students are selected for this honor based on their scholarship, leadership, service and character. The winners will each receive a plaque and gift presented by Howard Maffucci, East Rochester School Superintendent and current MCCOSS president, and their own district superintendent.

Kate Bennett, president of Rochester Museum and Science Center, will be the guest speaker.

The honorees from this area are: Amy Glover, representing Monroe 1 BOCES, Matthew Hughson, representing Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES, Michael Dumas, representing Brockport CSD, Jordan Hawthorne, representing Churchville-Chili CSD, John P. Ayers, representing Hilton CSD, Richard Evan Coia, representing Spencerport CSD.


Stephen Rodgers, of Rochester, received the Elementary Education Award during Honors Day ceremonies at the University of Vermont on April 19.

Rodgers is a senior in the College of Education & Social Services.


Marine Corps Pvt. Amber J. Kent, a 2000 graduate of Byron-Bergen High School, Bergen, completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.

Kent successfully completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.

Kent and other recruits also received instruction on the Marine Corps' core values - honor, courage and commitment, and what the words mean in guiding personal and professional conduct.

Kent ended the training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour team effort, problem solving evolution which culminated with an emotional ceremony in which the recruits were presented the Marine Corps Emblem, and were addressed as "Marines" for the first time since boot camp began.


Marine Corps Pvt. Steven T. Giannetto, a 1999 graduate of Northstar Christian Academy, Rochester, completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.

Air Force Master Sgt. David W. White has retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of military service.

White was the logistics maintenance manager for the 411th Flight Test Squadron at Edwards Air Force Base, Rosamond, California. During his military career, he was decorated with four Meritorious Service Medals, four Air Force Commendation Medals, an Air Force Achievement Medal, seven Good Conduct Medals, and a National Defense Medal.

He is the son of Betty J. White of Hamlin, and graduated in 1980 from Brockport High School.


Airman Kyle Boyst has graduated from aviation electrician school at the Naval Aviation Technical Training Center in Pensacola, Florida. He is stationed at the Naval Air Station in Brunswick, Maine and flies as a member of the Support Squadron VR-62.

He is the son of Jarl and Doris Boyst of Brockport.

Boyst is a 2001 graduate of Brockport High School.
