Brockport Creek clean up plans

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the New York State Department of Health, and the Monroe County Health Department have scheduled a public meeting to discuss clean-up plans for the former General Electric/Black & Decker and the former 3M/Dynacolor sites in Brockport.

The meeting is intended to provide residents with information about the proposed off-site clean up plans for Tributary #3 to Brockport Creek. Agency representatives will also be on hand to receive input from residents on the proposed clean-up plans.

Proposed plans include clean up of the storm sewer system near the former 3M/Dynacolor site on the south side of the canal. Plans are available for review at the Seymour Public Library, the Brockport Village Office and the NYSDEC Region 8 office in Avon. The DEC will accept written comments on the proposed plan until June 17, 2002.

The meeting will begin with a brief overview of the contaminant migration and the NYSDEC's procedure for determining clean-up requirements. The clean up will be followed by test results from the off-site sampling program and the proposed cleanup plan for the storm sewer system and Tributary #3 to Brockport Creek.

During the meeting, individuals can review information about the plans and results from off-site sampling.

The meeting will take place Wednesday, May 29 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Seymour Public Library, 161 East Avenue, Brockport. Information on the meeting can be obtained from Lisa LoMaestro Silvestri of the DEC at 585-226-5326.
