'Broadway in Brockport' in its seventh year

On June 8 the curtain will go up on "Broadway in Brockport 2002" at the Brockport High School. Students will sing, dance and act selected songs and scenes from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," "Secret Garden," "The King and I", "Jekyll & Hyde," "Guys and Dolls," "South Pacific," "Peter Pan," My Fair Lady," "Music Man," "West Side Story" and "Sound of Music." Most of the students are in 8-12 grade from Brockport, Kendall, Hilton and Holley.

Once again the show is directed by Julie Izzo. This is her fifth year directing this production. Izzo teaches drama at the Brockport School of Dance and Performing Arts. She also teaches voice in her home studio and is a seasoned performer herself.

"It's important that students have the chance to perform. Techniques learned in vocal instruction need to be tried out before a live audience," Izzo says. "I stress full interpretation of songs. Movement and character development along with proper vocal technique are included.
