wins Memorial Day essay contest

Hilton High School junior Katrina Gutmann was chosen the winner of New York Senator Richard A. Dollinger Memorial Day Scholarship Essay Contest. She will read the essay which discusses the role of heroes in both Lincoln's Gettysburg Address and throughout the events of September 11.

The reading will take place Monday, May 27, at 12:30 p.m. in Rochester's Blue Cross Arena as part of the "Rally 'Round the 140th New York Volunteer Infantry Flag" Dedication and Ceremony.

Katrina, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gutmann of Hilton, wrote the essay as part of her U.S. History class taught by teacher Kathy Amorese. She will receive a $250 scholarship from Wegman's and her essay will be printed in the Rochester daily newspaper.
