Blue Devils drop semi-final

The Brockport Blue Devils varsity baseball team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, but allowed Fairport to score five times in the fourth and lost to the Red Raiders 5-3 in the Section V Class A semi-final game May 28.

In the second inning, Jeremy Murray reached on an error and Snyder was hit by a pitch. Wahl singled to center driving in Murray with the game's first run. Chris Massiello followed with a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to score Snyder and Andy Parrino followed with a double down the line in left to plate Wahl for the 3-0 lead.

The Blue Devils threatened in the third inning when Casey Balog singled to center and Phil St. Amant walked. Murray sacrificed putting runners at second and third before Fairport was able to end the inning.

The Red Raiders took the lead in the fourth inning when they sent 12 batters to the plate, scoring five runs on six hits and a walk.

Blue Devils manager Brian Jones summed up the game in just a few words, "We each had a big inning and their big inning was better than ours." Brockport finished the season with a 20-4 record, the best since the 1983 Sectional Championship team went 20-5.
