Boating safety courses meet new regs

Regulations for operating a personal watercraft, i.e. boat, Jet Ski, now require an operator's certificate. By the year 2004 all operators must have these certificates. This year, all operators born on or after January 1, 1975 must have a certificate. In 2003, operators born on or after January 1, 1972 must have a certificate.

To obtain an Operator's Certificate a person must complete a Boating Safely Course sponsored by a Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla. Below is a listing of upcoming area courses. Two classes qualify an operator.

July 13 and July 20 - Boating Safely Course, 8 hours, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hamlin Town Hall Route 19.

August 10 and August 17 - Boating Safely Course, 8 hours, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hamlin Town Hall, Route 19.
