summer story hours and special shows schedule

The Parma Library will be offering a full range of programs for children of all ages this summer. Pre-school story hours for children 3-1/2 to 5 years old are a blend of stories, songs, games, films and fun. Sessions will be held on Mondays or Tuesdays from 10:15-11:15 a.m.

The first and second grade story hour (for children entering these grades) is held on Monday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. It features stories, songs, games, crafts, and fun.

For children going into third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades, Readers' Club meets on Wednesdays from 1-2:30 p.m. Whether journeying to Ancient Egypt or sailing on the R.M.S. Titanic, this program blends books and crafts into a weekly adventure where reading is fun.

Family Reading Night is a program for the whole family. Turn off the TV and radio for an hour or two and enjoy a good book with the whole family. Participants can pick up a family reading log at the library and record library visits and books read - then at the end of the summer turn in the reading log. All participants will be entered into a drawing and one family will win a gift certificate to Lift Bridge Book Shop in Brockport.

Registration is required for each of the programs and may be done in person or by calling the library at 392-8350. All story hours start the week of July 8 and run through the week of August 21.

The library has booked an array of talent for its Visiting Artist Programs this summer. They include Bart Dentino and Kevin Huber who will sing on Tuesday, June 25 at 2 p.m. Bernd Ogrodnik - Master Puppeteer will entertain with his marionettes and hand carved puppet creations on Tuesday, July 9 at 2 p.m. Nels Cremean's comedy juggling show will be at the library on Tuesday, July 23 at 2 p.m. Marianne Smith will be on hand with her Exotic Pets on Tuesday and Thursday, August 6 and 8 at 2 p.m. Due to the popularity of this show, free advance tickets (available mid July) will be required. Wind up your summer with Doug Rougeau's Bubble Show on Tuesday, August 20 at 2 p.m.

Visit the library for information. Patrons can also be a part of the Book Mark Collectors' Club. Beginning June 24, a different bookmark will be available each week. Collect them all by asking for one at the checkout desk each week.
