Kendall Elementary students are helping people all over the world see more clearly. The second- and third-grades coordinated an eyeglass donation effort that brought in nearly 600 pairs of glasses and six hearing aids. The items were then donated to the Kendall Lions Club and will be taken to recycling centers in either Pennsylvania or Indiana. There, the glasses will be categorized, cataloged and used in good will missions across Central and South America, and Russia. Ophthalmologists optometrists, translators and surgeons, who are also Lions Club members, bring the eyeglasses and their expertise to areas where eye care is both unaffordable and inaccessible.

Second- and third-graders made posters and fliers to promote the collection, which was coordinated by School Nurse Margie Lapp. The team that brought in the most eyeglasses won a pizza party. That was the third-grade class, which collected 157 pairs. Kendall Lions Club members Ray Ernenwein, charter president, Glenn Winkler, president, Glen Spellan, past president, and Paul Dittman were also on hand at the pizza party to congratulate students.
