Katherine A. Fantauzzo of Rochester, daughter of Frank and Ferne Fantauzzo, earned dean's list recognition during the spring 2002 semester at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.

A student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive dean's list recognition.


Michael Campbell graduated from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio in commencement exercises on May 12. He received a bachelor of arts degree cum laude in justice studies and psychology. He was also recognized for the Golden Key National Honor Society. He has accepted a job in Ohio with the Strongsville Police Department and will attend the training academy beginning in August.

Campbell graduated from Churchville-Chili High School in 1997 and is the son of Janet and Dave Campbell of Ogden.


Michele L. Sweeney of Hamlin has been named to the deans' list for the spring semester at SUNY Oswego.

Sweeney is a senior studying marketing at Oswego. She resides at Drake Road.

To be included on the deans' list, students must have a semester grade average of 3.30 to 3.79.


Elizabeth H. Brown, a Marietta College senior from Spencerport, has been named to the dean's high honors list at Marietta College for the 2002 spring semester. To be eligible, a full time student must complete at least 15 credit hours with a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the semester.

Brown, the daughter of Deborah L. Brown of Brookville, Ohio and George E. Brown of Centerville, Ohio, majors in music and radio-TV.


Rebecca King of Forest Meadow Trail in Spencerport, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2002 semester at the State University College at Cortland. She is a graduate of Spencerport High School.


Spencerport resident Elizabeth Brown was named to the list of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." Brown graduated from Marietta College in May 2002 with bachelor of arts degrees in music and radio/television.


At a banquet held at the Glass Onion Restaurant in Canton, NY, on April 6, Nicholas A. Saunders of Ogden was inducted into the New York Chi Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at Clarkson University in Potsdam. This event was also a celebration chartering the New York Chi Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Clarkson. In addition to pursuing Sigma Phi Epsilon brothers' individual and social needs, the fraternity also serves the community.


Heidi M. Grolemund of Ridgefield Drive, Churchville has been honored at Rochester Institute of Technology with dean's list recognition for the spring quarter. A third-year student in the College of Liberal Arts, Grolemund is studying criminal justice.

She is the daughter of Donald and Audrey Grolemund of Churchville and a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.


Michael Leiston of Spencerport has been named to the dean's list for the winter quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A fourth-year student in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering, Leiston is studying mechanical engineering.

He is the son of Patricia Leiston of Spencerport and a 1999 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.


The following local residents were named to the dean's list at Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia for the spring 2002 semester: Theresa Barron, of Rochester; Kari Lima of Rochester.

Undergraduates named to the dean's list earn a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale and carry an academic load of at least 12 credit hours.

The following students were named to the dean's list for the spring 2002 semester at Mansfield University in Mansfield, Pennsylvania.

Barbara Pociatek of Spencerport graduated May 19 from Loyola University, New Orleans.


William Michielsen of West Avenue, Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list for the fall, winter and spring quarters (2001-2002) at Rochester Institute of Technology. A first-year student in RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, he is studying computer science.

Michielsen, son of Thomas and Linda Michielsen of Spencerport, is a 2001 graduate of Spencerport High School.


The Churchville-Chili Service Unit of the Salvation Army awarded two scholarships on May 29. Kevin Laley and Megan Tiernan were the recipients at the Student Awards Ceremony at Churchville-Chili Senior High School.

Both were found to be outstanding students with high academic averages. They will pursue college careers in the human service field.


Meghan LaRock of Brockport was awarded a bachelor of arts degree at Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts on Saturday, May 18. LaRock majored in international studies at Bentley and plans to settle in the Boston area, employed by the law firm of Morse, Barnes-Brown & Pendleton. Her undergraduate activities included Hall Council Advisory Board; OSIS (Organization for Students of International Studies); Phi Sigma Sigma; Women's Soccer team; internships at Volkswagen, Sao Paula, Brazil; and at the International Institute of Boston, Massachusetts. She is the daughter of Doni and Beth LaRock and a graduate of Brockport High School.


Joe Sirianni of Spencerport will participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine (NYLF/MED), taking place in Washington, D.C. from July 7 to July 16. NYLF/MED is a career development program for high school students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential and an interest in medicine. Sirianni will join approximately 350 other high school students from around the country.

Throughout the ten-day Forum, NYLF/MED will introduce Sirianni to a variety of concepts in public health, medical ethics, research and general practice, including site visits to medical facilities and clinics. Students will engage in problem-based learning simulation, an educational method where they are presented with a fictional patient's case history and must diagnose and develop a treatment plan for the patient.


Katie A. Flow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Flow, Norway Road, Holley, received a bachelor of science degree with distinction in chemical engineering from Clarkson University May 12.


Greg Oliver of Spencerport has been selected to attend the National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) from July 22 to August 1, 2002 in Washington, D.C. The NYLC is a leadership development program for high school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and scholastic merit. Oliver will be among 350 outstanding students from around the country to attend the conference.

The theme of the NYLC is The Leaders of Tomorrow Meeting the Leaders of Today. Throughout the eleven-day conference, Oliver will interact with key leaders and newsmakers from the three branches of government, the media, and the international community.

Highlights of the program include welcoming remarks from the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives and a panel discussion with prominent journalists at the National Press Club. Oliver will also meet with senators and a representative or an appointed member of their staff to discuss important issues facing the nation.


Darren K. Eustance, son of Duggann and Dennis Eustance of Spencerport, received his bachelor of arts degree in political science from SUNY Geneseo on May 25.

This fall, he will begin graduate studies in political management at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

He is a 1999 graduate of Brockport High School.


Scott Walker, son of Mike and Betty Walker of Spencerport, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2002 semester at Oswego State. He finished his junior year with a 3.66 majoring in marketing with a minor in Spanish.

Walker is a graduate of Brockport High School.


Culinary Arts student Craig Rosekrans, Rochester, earned a third-place ribbon for his three-course luncheon in the recent 2002 Culinary Arts Exposition competition at Alfred State College's School of Applied Technology Campus, Wellsville. Rosekrans, a culinary arts freshman, is the son of Karen Rosekrans, Rochester, and Neil Rosekrans, Rochester,

He is a 2000 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.

The following students are on the dean's list for their outstanding academic achievement for the spring 2002 semester from Harpur College of Arts and Sciences at Binghamton University: Marie E. Lloyd of Spencerport; Shauna C. Buckman of Henrietta; Megan E. Kincaid of Spencerport.


Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Joseph E. Lawson, son of Cathy A. and Carm R. Carmestro of Wilder Road, Hilton, graduated from the Nuclear Field "A" School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Goose Creek, South Carolina.

The three- to six-month course teaches machinist's mates, electrician's mates and electronics technicians the basics of their jobs. It provides hands-on training on equipment designed to teach technical skills.

Graduates then attend the Nuclear Power School, which teaches the principles of science and engineering, construction, and operation and maintenance of naval nuclear propulsion plants.

Lawson is a 1996 graduate of Greece Arcadia High School and joined the Navy in October 2001.


Marine Corps Cpl. Gregory J. Baronas, a 1996 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School, completed a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Enduring Freedom while assigned to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), home based at Camp Pendleton, California.

Baronas was one of more than 10,000 Pacific Fleet Sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS John C. Stennis Carrier Battle Group and USS Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group who participated in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Baronas' unit worked 18 days to complete humanitarian and civic projects in six different coastal areas of Kenya. They replaced a decrepit footbridge, built a two-classroom building for school children, created a water source for the Gongoni Maternity Wing in the District of Malindi and performed carpentry work on a school for the deaf in Kilifi.


Marine Corps Sgt. Michael A. Voegel, son of Katie M. Voegel of Teaberry Drive, Spencerport, is halfway through a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Voegel is one of more than 10,000 Atlantic Fleet sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS John F. Kennedy Carrier Battle Group and USS Wasp Amphibious Ready Group.

Marines from Voegel's unit participated in Exercise Infinite Anvil and visited Souda Bay, Crete and Petra, Jordan where they had the opportunity to shop, sightsee and enjoy the local culture and cuisine.


Navy Hospitalman Recruit Colin J. Arthur, son of Camilla A. and Douglas J. Arthur of Greenridge Crescent, Hamlin, graduated from the Basic Hospital Corps School at Naval Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, Illinois.

He is a 2001 graduate of Brockport High School and joined the Navy in July 2001.
