Hamlin Recreation had two finalists in the Team Championship of the Pepsi Pitch Hit and Run contest. Zackery Coughlin competed at 7/8 level and Bobby Quick at the 13/14 level. To get to the Team Championships they had to win at the local and sectional level.

At the Team Championships finals at Macombs Park in New York City, Zackery and Bobby both finished fourth. After the competition, the boys were given tickets to the Yankees - S.F. Each boy received a Pepsi Pitch Hit and Run plaque, T-shirt, hat and a Yankees' hat. They also had a bonus of meeting some of the Yankee players, among them, Derek Jeter, Roger Clemens, Alphonse Soriano, Mike Mussina, and Rondell White, with White signing everything they had. They also got a glimpse of Barry Bonds arriving in his limo, and taking batting practice.
