Gates celebrates summer

The Town of Gates is ready to kick off summer with their annual Gates Summer Celebration which will be held on Sunday, June 30 at the Gates Chili High School fields, 910 Wegman Road. This year's celebration will have a patriotic theme and include a short fireman's parade march down the school road at 6 p.m.

Entertainment begins at 4 p.m. with popular children's entertainment "Just Foolin' Around" to be followed by the local bands: "Perfect World," "Boys Lie," and the "Boomerang Club." "Ruby Shooz" will finish out the night with a fantastic show and music from the fifties. Radio personality Tom George from WBBF will be the emcee beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Children's activities will include a climbing wall from Rock Ventures, a Giant Maze & Slide, Moon Bounce and carnival type games presented by the Gates Recreation & Parks Summer Playground Staff. A patriotic bracelet craft will also be available. Clowns from "Send in the Clowns" will also be on hand to join in the festivities.

New this year is an old fashion Chicken Barbecue. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Gates Recreation & Parks Department at a discount rate or at the festival. A festival tent will also be set up for the diners. Community sponsored vendors will have a variety of food items including fried dough, hots and hamburgs, Italian ice, curly fries, sub sandwiches and other items.

A fireworks display, sponsored by the Gates Chili Fire District, will also take on the patriotic theme with both an air and ground show set to music.
