Members of the Monroe Community College men's baseball team have been selected to play on the State University of New York's All-Star Baseball Team that will compete in an international baseball tournament on June 23 through July 1, in Moscow, Russia. SUNY coaches across the state nominated students for the All-Star team based on athletic achievement. The competition will include teams from Japan, South Korea and Russia.

Ned VanAllan of Brighton, Alex Rybczak and alternate Paul Zehr, both of Chili, will represent MCC and SUNY at the tournament. VanAllan, an outfielder for the MCC Tribunes, was named MCC's Male Athlete of the Year for 2002. He was also a two-year veteran of the All-Region Team. VanAllan plans to attend Cornell University next fall.

Rybczak, who played catcher for the MCC Tribunes, was also a member of the All-Region First Team. He will attend University of Pittsburgh in the fall. Zehr was a pitcher and third baseman for the Tribunes and was a member of the All-Region Second Team. Both Rybczak and Zehr earned associate's degrees in liberal arts and sciences in May 2002.

The MCC Tribunes, led by Skip Bailey, associate director of athletics and head baseball coach, finished the season with a record of 26-14. The Tribunes are the 2002 Region III champions and placed second in the New York State Division I Baseball Tournament.
