Tennis players medal winners

Women's Tennis League members were medal winners at the 2002 Empire State Senior Games: Millie Gianfagna, Gloria Miller and Ginny Catalino.

Three members of the Salmon Creek Country Club Women's Tennis League in Spencerport not only returned home medal winners from the 2002 Empire State Senior Games held at SUNY Cortland June 5 to 9, but also qualified for the 2003 National Senior Games to be held at Hampton Roads, Virginia Beach, Virginia May 29-June 9, 2003.

Millie Gianfagna of Brockport and Gloria Miller of Greece won gold medals in the 75-79 doubles division. Miller and Ginny Catalino of Spencerport won silver medals inthe 70-74 doubles division.

Gianfagna teamed up with her 53-year-old son-in-law, Ed Esrick of Rockville Centre, Long Island, NY, to win a bronze medal in the 50-54 mixed doubles division.

Gianfagna and Miller won silver medals in previous years and qualified and participated inthe National Senior Games in San Antonio, Texas, in 1997.

Winners of gold and silver medals in the 21 different sporting events at the Empire State Games qualify for the National Games.

This year marked the 20th anniversary of the Empire State Games which returned to Cortland where the first Senior Games were held. The Games also have been held at LeMoyne College and Syracuse University.
