CHURCHVILLE

Joseph Rovisa,
Churchville Tire Company owner

Joseph O. Rovisa owned Churchville Tire and Supply Company, Inc. since 1969. Although many may have known him as Joe Rose, some referred to him as the Godfather of Churchville. He built his business on a dream and a lot of hard work. He purchased a small garage made of wood that once was a blacksmith shop back in the horse and buggy days many years ago. He sold primarily Goodyear Tires of every size from the smallest to the largest and repaired cars and trucks. One of his motto's was, "Sell the Customer Only What They Need!" Over the years, while doing what he loved most, hard work, he gradually remodeled that little shack into a brightly painted yellow cement block building with several service bays, a large office-showroom and a large tire warehouse that also accommodates larger trucks and motor homes for repairs.

Joe lived for his business, family and, of course, his customers, who were also considered friends. He always made time to help someone out, even after the shop was cleaned and he was ready to close for the day. Many of you will remember him for his little sayings like, "Joe Needs the Money" or "Free spring, summer, fall or winter air," depending on the season we were in at the time. During the summer months, in order for him to close by 1 p.m. on Saturdays, he'd say, "I have to close on time because my grandmother was dating this really young guy and now she has to get married and I've got to go to her wedding." He even received a few congratulation cards from some customers making it that much more humorous.

After many years of hard work, success and refusal to retire at the young age of 79, Joseph Rovisa died on March 29 while on vacation in Florida. He is predeceased by his son, Nicholas. Survived by his wife, Jessie of 54 years; son, Thomas (Gina), daughter, Linda (Bob Agresti) and grandson, Nicholas Rovisa.

He will be sadly missed by all and his new motto will be … Joe says, "I'm watching over you from heaven, now my kids need the money."
