Troop 90 holds Court of Honor

Boy Scout Troop 90 held a Court of Honor on May 21 to recognize William T. Rowe for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Friends and family were in attendance at the First Baptist Church in Chili to honor him for this achievement.

Rowe was escorted to the front of the church along the "Eagle Trail" by Eagle Scouts Eric Ernst and Ben Allen. Star Scout Kyle Goodwin acted as Master of Ceremonies. Opening remarks were made by Bob Easterly, and Scoutmaster Keith Wimer rededicated the Scout Oath. Scoutmaster Wimer and Assistant Scoutmasters Al Volkmuth and Jim Gagnon spoke about Rowe and his years in scouting. The presentation of plaques and letters of recognition followed. Councilman Bob Ottley, on behalf of the Town of Riga, offered congratulations to Rowe.

Rowe then took the podium and thanked his family, leaders, and scouts for helping him become an Eagle Scout. He told how scouting has taught him leadership skills, outdoor skills, and how to take responsibility for himself and others. He especially enjoyed the skiing and camping trips and met a lot of interesting people throughout his years in scouting. Rowe advised the younger scouts to not put off working on their Eagle projects, because their time can fill with other activities, and not to give up on their path to Eagle.

To earn the rank of Eagle, a scout must earn 21 merit badges, hold leadership positions within the troop, and complete an approved community service project. Rowe joined Troop 90 in 1994. He has earned 39 merit badges and has held the positions of Assistant Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, and Senior Patrol Leader. He became a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow in 1998 and earned the World Conservation Award in 1996.

For his Eagle project, Rowe planned and led a group of scouts and family members in a project to construct a picnic pavilion at the Sanford Road Park in the Town of Riga. The pavilion provides shelter for six picnic tables for public use.

Rowe, 18, is a resident of Riga, where he lives with his parents, Pat and Tim Rowe, and two siblings. The Churchville-Chili graduate is attending R.I.T. and studying mechanical engineering.

Rowe's Court of Honor was preceded by A Court of Awards. The Rank of Scout was awarded to Daniel Damico, Jonathan Gibson, Phillip Griffee, Ricky Kmentt, Kyle McAnany, John Richards, and Ross Temple. Tony Melia and Ryan Moses earned Second Class. First Class Rank was awarded to Dan Cole, Alex Bailey, Chris Collins, Matt Herrington, Cory Livingston, Josh Osgood, and Matthew Ormandy. Andrew Bostick and Eric Ludwig earned Star Rank. Merit badges were also presented.
