Nancy J. Williams has been selected as director of communications at Career Development Services. The full-time director of communications position is new for the 26-year-old non-profit organization that provides career management and employee development services to businesses and individuals to help them grow, change and succeed.

Prior to joining Career Development Services, Williams owned Write on the River, a professional marketing communications business. She has worked in corporate and non-profit areas and brings over 16 years of experience to the Career Development position. Williams is responsible for developing and implementing the strategic communications plan for the organization.

Career Development Services provides assessments, coaching and counseling for individuals, transition services to meet outplacement needs, and a wide range of consulting services to corporations. Career Development Services is located at 706 East Avenue in Rochester.


Shannon Elissa Skivington of Kress Hill Drive, Spencerport a psychology major, was named to the dean's list at SUNY Cortland for the spring 2002 semester. She is a 1999 graduate of Spencerport High School and the daughter of Diane Palumbo.


Erin Kimmerly, daughter of Keith and Marianne Kimmerly of Hilton, has been named to the dean's list at Canisius College in Buffalo for both the fall and spring 2002 semesters.


Emily Ugino, daughter of Richard and Joan Ugino of Hilton, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2002 semester at Saint Michael's College in Vermont. Ugino is a May 2002 graduate of Saint Michael's with a bachelor of arts degree in political science, magna cum laude. She attended Our Lady of Mercy High School before entering Saint Michael's.


Adrienne Smith of Spencerport, a student at Gettysburg College, received Sor Juana Ines De La Cruz Awards in Spanish and Samuel A. Mudd Psychology Award at the college's May 18 Honors Day ceremonies.


Michael Gassett graduated from Johnson and Wales University on May 18 with an associate's degree in culinary arts. He is presently doing an externship in Norfolk, Virginia. He is the son of Bonnie Lewis of Rochester, and the grandson of Barbara and Jim Fannon of Spencerport.


Diane Lewis was honored on June 18 by the Rochester Teachers' Association as a winner of the RTA Peter Castle Memorial Grant in Aid Scholarship. She will graduate on June 25 from Josh Lofton High School and will be attending Nazareth College in the fall. Lewis is the daughter of Bonnie Lewis of Rochester, and the granddaughter of Barbara and James Fannon of Spencerport.


Shannon Stoll of Hilton is a recent graduate of Wells College, a liberal arts school for women located in Aurora. She is the daughter of Sarah and David Stoll of Hilton, and completed degree requirements in mathematical and physical sciences, concentration in mathematics, minor in elementary education, cum laude.

Stoll was also named to the dean's list for the spring 2002 semester.


Churchville native Paul J. Blackcloud graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College, one of more than 1,000 students receiving bachelor of arts degrees at the June 9, 2002 commencement exercises.

Blackcloud, son of Kristine and Claude Blackcloud, majored in environmental studies and minored in German.


Matthew Montanaro, of Quail Lane, Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for the spring quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A third-year student in the College of Science, Montanaro is studying physics. The son of Nick and Romea Montanaro, he is a 2001 graduate of Aquinas Institute High School.


Jared E. Unterborn, of Walker Lake Ontario Road, Hilton, has been named to the dean's list for the fourth-quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A third-year student in the School of Printing Management and Sciences, Unterborn is studying printing management. The son of Glen and Pat Unterborn, he is a 1999 graduate of Hilton High School.


Colleen Fenity, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence E. Fenity of Maplewood Avenue, Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list at Hamilton College for the 2002 spring semester.

A student is placed on the dean's list for earning an average of 90 or above during the term.

Fenity, who graduated from Hamilton College last month, majored in English and dance.


Hamlin resident Chelsea E. Matsko was one of nearly 700 students to graduate from Messiah College on May 18. This year's commencement marked the largest graduating class in the college's history. Matsko is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence A. Matsko, Hamlin.

Matsko graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in biology. Matsko is a 1998 home school graduate.


Rochester resident Christine J. Mahle was one of nearly 700 students to graduate from Messiah College on Saturday, May 18, during the college's 92nd annual commencement. This year's commencement marked the largest graduating class in the college's history. Mahle is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mahle, Rochester.

Mahle graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Mahle is a 1998 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.


Rochester resident Meredith L. Beales was one of nearly 700 students to graduate from Messiah College on Saturday, May 18, during the college's 92nd annual commencement. This year's commencement marked the largest graduating class in the college's history. Beales is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Beales, Rochester.

Beales graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in accounting. Beales is a 1998 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.


The father and son team of Bryan and Zachary Scholze were recently awarded Students of the Month at the Isshin Ryu Karate Academy of Hamlin. Bryan really enjoys karate because of the physical fitness and discipline. He especially enjoys the fact that he and his son can do karate together. Zachary enjoys the fun atmosphere and likes practicing with his dad.


Kevin Hinkley was named to the dean's list for the fall and spring 2001-2002 semesters at Niagara University with a 4.0 grade point average both semesters. He is a political science/pre-law major.

At Niagara University, Hinkley is also chairman of the College Republicans, vice-president of the Political Science Forum, and treasurer of the Pre-Law Association.

A graduate of Notre Dame High School, he is the son of Roxann and Kim Hinkley of Holley.


Sandra K. Small, daughter of Jeffrey and Kathryn Small of Chili, has been named to the spring 2002 dean's list at St. John Fisher College. Small is a sophomore studying biology and education.

She is also a service scholar and is required to perform community service. Currently she is fulfilling this requirement by assisting in a first grade classroom in East Rochester.


Chris Vito of Chili has made the spring 2002 dean's list upon completion of his freshman year at SUNY Brockport.


Scott T. Colangelo, son of Mitch and Diane Hadfield and Lou and Mary Colangelo, has been named to the spring 2002 dean's list at St. John Fisher College.

Colangelo, a junior, is an education major.

To be eligible for the dean's list at St. John Fisher College, a student must have attained at least a 3.3 grade point average for the semester.


Area students named to the president's list for the spring 2002 semester at SUNY Potsdam include: oMichael Thomas Balonek, of Spencerport, a music education major. He is the son of Mark and Audrey Balonek of Spencerport.

Andrea Lynn Ferris, of Rochester, a childhood education major. She is the daughter of Ramon and Maureen Ferris of Rochester.

Michelle Anne Keenan, of Spencerport, a music education major.

Jennifer Kathleen Woodworth, of Bergen, a chemistry major. She is the daughter of Donald and Beth Woodworth of Bergen.

To achieve the honor of being on the president's list, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically graded semester hours that semester with a minimum grade point average of 3.5.


Anne Marie Cutter and Kelley Lyn Jones of North Greece were named to the dean's list at SUNY Brockport for the spring 2002 semester. The students each earned a minimum grade point average of 3.25, carrying a minimum of six credits to receive the dean's list designation.


Two SUNY Geneseo students have been named recipients of 2002 Goldwater Scholarships which recognize academic achievement in the fields of mathematics, science and engineering. Sophomore Matthew R. Fleming of Wellsville, and junior Summer Raines of Ogden, were among 309 undergraduates selected from a pool of 1,155 nominees from throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

Fleming and Raines are the ninth and tenth Geneseo students to be named Goldwater Scholars since 1992, and they are the only Goldwater Scholars from a SUNY four-year college this year. Four other SUNY recipients are enrolled at the university centers of Stony Brook (two), Albany and Buffalo (one each). Both Fleming and Raines are pursuing majors in biochemistry and plan on a career in research, following post-graduate study in biomedicine. Both also have a strong record of volunteer service in the community.

Raines is pursuing a minor in English, with a concentration in writing, as well as her biochemistry major. She plans to combine a career teaching at the college level with employment as a private sector biomedical researcher, focusing on stem cells or nutritional medicine, she said. She has already gained extensive research experience at Geneseo, working on studies of DNA in the laboratory of Assistant Chemistry Professor Wendy Pogozelski.

Project areas in which Raines has been involved include an examination of how gamma and x-ray radiation damages DNA, and investigation into a particular DNA fragment believed to cause a fatal genetic disease known as Bloom's Syndrome. Other students working in these areas with Pogozelski were also recently recognized, by the national Council on Undergraduate Research.

Patrick Reynell of Spencerport was named to the dean's list for the spring 2002 semester at Temple University.

To qualify for the dean's list, students must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours with letter grades and earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better.
