Wall, Dewey sweep postseason awards

Churchville-Chili catcher Lyndsay Wall was named the Division II softball Player of the Year and M.P. Dewey was named the Coach of the Year following their 15-7 season which ended with a 1-0 loss to Webster in the Sectional semi-finals.

"Lyndsay was a big part of what we were able to accomplish as a team," said Dewey. "She led us in just about every offensive category. As a coach, you want to put your best people in the key spots and she has been one of the best catchers in the league since her freshman year."

Wall was a Second-Team All-Star her freshman year and a First-Team All-Star last season. "It depends on the year and the athletes, but this award is usually won by a senior so that tells you what kind of season she had and player she is," concluded Dewey. "I’m sure Lyndsay would tell you that it’s nice to get recognition, but that she would much rather have won the sectional title."

Dewey was recognized as Coach of the Year for the second time. She also won the award following the 1997 season. "It’s a nice honor and I’m very pleased. You never go in thinking about getting this award, but it’s nice to be recognized."

In addition to Wall, Joanna Patalano was named to the Division II All-Star first team.
