Springfield College awarded Andrew Baxter of Rochester a bachelor of science degree in movement and sports studies on May 12, 2002.


Area residents named to the dean's list for outstanding academic achievement and the president's list for extraordinary academic achievement in the spring semester at Bentley College include: Courtney Bowers, Rochester, a sophomore, undecided liberal arts major, named to the president's list; Stephanie Weilert, Rochester, a sophomore, marketing major, named to the dean's list.


Crystal Bausch, daughter of Richmond and Deborah Bausch, Newcomb Drive, Hilton, has been named to the spring 2002 dean's list at Keuka College. Bausch, a freshman, is studying unified special elementary education.

A Keuka College student must have earned at least a 3.50 grade-point average for each block of at least 12 semester credit hours to be eligible for the dean's list. Bausch earned a 3.859 GPA.


Matthew R. Hand, of Parkwood Lane, Hilton, has been named to the dean's list for the third-quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A second-year student in RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, Hand is studying computer software engineering. The son of Arthur Hand and Tracy Hand, of Glendale Road, Brockport and Parkwood Lane, Hilton, is a 2000 graduate of Hilton High School.


Lindsay M. Barton, the child of Mr. and Mrs. James S. Barton of Spencerport, received a bachelor of arts degree from Colgate University on Sunday, May 19.

Barton received the U.S. Fulbright Program at the university's annual awards convocation on April 30 where more than 150 students received departmental prizes and awards.


Melissa Waddell, of Hickory Way, Brockport, has been named to the dean's list for the spring quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A first-year student in the School of Film and Animation, Waddell is studying animation. She is a 2001 graduate of Aquinas Institute High School.


Carrie LaDue, daughter of Greg and Gay LaDue, Hamlin, has been named to the dean's list at Keuka College in Keuka Park. LaDue, a sophomore, is studying business administration.

A Keuka College student must have earned at least a 3.50 grade-point average for each block of at least 12 semester credit hours to be eligible for the dean's list.


Breanne McDowell of Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Nazareth College.

Students named to the dean's list must be enrolled full time and must earn a grade point index of 3.5 or higher for the semester.


Gina Montenaro, daughter of Peter and Mary Montenaro, Spencerport, was graduated May 19 from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor's degree in history, from the College of Arts and Letters. Montenaro was also named to the dean's list for outstanding scholarship during the spring semester.

The dean's list is comprised of a select group of students who have succeeded in maintaining a scholastic average of 3.4 and above during the past semester at Notre Dame.

Montenaro, a 1998 graduate of Spencerport High School, will be in Portland, Oregon for the upcoming year, where she will be involved in a service project.


Brian J. Goodness, of Hilton, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2002 semester at SUNY College at Morrisville. He is a sports nutrition and fitness management major.

To be named to the dean's list, a student must achieve an average of 3.0 to 3.99 for the semester and complete 12 credit hours.


The following area students are graduates of SUNY College at Morrisville, spring 2002: Corey S. Baxter, of Hilton, diesel technology - AOS major. Sarah L. McCauley, Churchville, an animal science - equine science and management major.


Annie Macleod of Churchville has joined the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology as a department chair. She comes to the Industrial and Science Technologies department from the Internet Learning Solutions Group of Cisco Systems in California. She holds a master of education degree in information technology education from Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia.


Several area residents have been named to honor rolls for the spring semester at SUNY Oswego.

On the Oswego president's list are: from North Chili, David W. Johnson of Parkway Drive, a sophomore chemistry major; and from Spencerport, Jodi L. Luedemann of Winding Country Lane, a senior biology major.

On the dean's list are:

•From Bergen, Melissa A. Urban of Townline Road, a senior graphic design major.

•From Churchville, Katie M. Perry of Old Chili Scottsville Road, a senior journalism major, and Rebecca A. Volta of King Road, a junior finance major.

•From Hamlin, Michele L. Sweeney of Drake Road, a senior marketing major.

•From Hilton, Jason M. Barton of Clarkson Parma Townline Road, a sophomore, and Russell S. Korn of Judd Lane, a sophomore secondary education major.

•From North Greece, Mark L. Rohr, a senior public justice major.

•From Spencerport, Dominic A. Corona of Big Ridge Road, a senior teacher of trade subjects major; Abby R. Curatolo of Sheldon Drive, a junior journalism major; Evan V. Lucieer of Pine Hill Road, a sophomore technology education major; Rebecca S. Mance of Whittier Road, a sophomore elementary education major; John C. Perry of Walnut Hill Drive, a junior communication studies major; and Scott M. Walker of Highpoint Drive, a senior marketing major.

The president's and dean's lists represent the academic top 23 percent of the Oswego student body. Students who achieve grade averages of 3.80 and above on the 4.0 scale are named to the president's list, the top 5 percent of Oswego students. To be included on the dean's list, students must have a semester grade average of 3.30 to 3.79.


Julie Szymanowicz, a sophomore majoring in political science at Niagara University, has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2002 semester. She has also been elected captain and choreographer of the Dance Line for the coming school year. The Dance Line provides entertainment during the Purple Eagle's home basketball games.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Szymanowicz of Spencerport.


Danielle N. Moore of Spencerport is a recent graduate of Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. The 1998 Spencerport High School graduate is the daughter of David and Joan Moore and received a bachelor of science degree in management. She plans to pursue a career in management or administration.


Andy Bourne, son of Dave and Joanne Bourne of Spencerport, was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at the State University of New York College at Fredonia. He will be a sophomore this fall, majoring in communications/sound recording.


The Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley, Inc. honored local girls with Bronze Awards, the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout (ages 8-11, grades 3-6) can earn, at a Celebration of Achievement ceremony at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center on June 23.

To earn the Bronze Award, girls apply their personal strengths to helping others. Working with an advisor, the girls build leadership skills, explore career possibilities and serve a community need. The project involves creating a project plan, timeline and budget; identifying people to help; and successfully executing the plan.

Following are the Bronze Award recipients from the Brockport Service Unit: Troop 275 - Kelsey Klump; Troop 847 - Emma Carpenter, Katherine Drake, Katie Frank, Shelby Lind. Traci Westcott.


The Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley, Inc. honored Emily Kurzdorfer, of Girl Scout Troop 555 in the Brockport Service Unit with a Silver Award, the highest honor a Cadette Girl Scout (ages 11-14, grades 6-9) can earn. Kurzdorfer completed a First Aid Kit project. She was one of 144 girls who received a Silver Award at a Celebration of Achievement ceremony at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center on June 23.

To earn the Silver Award, girls apply their personal strengths to helping others. Working with an advisor, the girls build leadership skills, explore career possibilities and serve a community need. The project involves creating a project plan, timeline and budget; identifying people to help; and successfully executing the plan.
