Erie Canal thoughts

We live on the Erie Canal, I don't mean next to it or near it, we live on a boat on the Erie.

Although our official home is Churchville, we live on Camelot about six months a year. We have traveled the entire length of the canal. We bought our boat in Connecticut and drove it through Long Island Sound, through New York City, up the Hudson and down the Erie.

In our opinion, the western part of the canal is the most beautiful. With the towns and villages, such as Spencerport, Brockport and Holley improving the facilities for boaters, it becomes more enjoyable each year. We travel a good part of the summer and those communities above make us feel welcome and safe. The summer concerts are a really nice, fun activity and we try to attend as many as we can. From the looks of the turnout at these events, the local residents also agree. It reminds us of how community activities brought people together in the past, we hope they will continue. After reading about all the Canal Corporation, state, and federal money being spent on and around the canal, it is great to see some positive results. We realize it takes a lot of effort from the communities to maintain these improvements, but they are doing a great job.

See you on the canal - Paul and Jean Miller, Churchville (sometimes)

Note: Our summer series - Traveling and Remembering the Erie Canal - continues. See page 4 for contact information. Does anyone have a "maneuvering the bridge" story to tell?
