Canoe racers and
volunteers had fun

The Canal Days Canoe Committee would like to thank all who made the Sunday canoe race so much fun. Karen Fien, Bill Hill, Tim Dotzler, Dorraine Laudisi and Janene Swanson, Rick and Mark Huntington, Tom Cole, Pat Brown, and Andrew Hand all worked very hard to get their crews together and decorate the canoes. The paddlers put their all into keeping the canoes in line, some had more fun zigzagging the canal. The prizes were appreciated but it seemed like the fun was the most important aspect of the race.

Awards were as follows: $200 - fastest - Thomas Cole, $50 - elegant - Rick and Mark Huntington - Sugar's Bike Shop, $50 - colorful - Dorraine Laudisi and Janene Swanson - Saint John's School, $50 - imaginative - Pat Brown - Spencerport School Nurses.

We would also like to thank:

Greg Carr for bringing the Safety Navigation Boat along with his crew Rich Francis, Rodger Reynolds and his Junior Safety Navigator, Macey Carr.

Stephanie Collins, Mari Carr, Pat Hotchkiss, Russ Young; Young for officiating the race.

The Spencerport Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad, The Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance medics and all the Canal Days volunteers that chipped in and made the race a success.

•All the spectators who cheered the canoes to the finish line. They made it all worthwhile.

A special thanks to Ted Walker (mayor) and Gay Lenhard (town supervisor) for judging the canoes out of the water and in the water. Their support was appreciated.
