creation of Spencerport Fire District

Legislation sponsored by State Senator George Maziarz (61st District) authorizing the creation of the Spencerport Fire District has become law.

The bill (S.6139) authorizes the dissolution of the Ogden-Parma Fire District and creates the Spencerport Fire District. The newly formed district will consolidate the provision of fire services of both fire districts and, thereby, serve the Village of Spencerport, the Town of Ogden and a portion of the Town of Parma.

"I am pleased to have assisted officials from the Village of Spencerport and the Ogden-Parma Fire District in facilitating the creation of the new fire district and I applaud their initiative in seeking to provide local residents with the best possible fire protection services in an organized, uniform manner."

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Spencerport and the Commissioners of the Ogden-Parma Fire District sought this legislation to consolidate services in the interest of creating a unified entity that would serve the inhabitants of the village and towns. It was agreed among all parties that a merger would best serve the needs of area residents and businesses by streamlining decision making and procedures while allowing for multi-item purchase discounts and improving the uniformity of training, equipment and apparatus throughout the fire district.

The new law takes effect immediately.
