GCC offers first-ever online degree program

Genesee Community College received approval from the New York State Education Department to offer a Liberal Arts and Sciences/General Studies associate's degree online, the college's first-ever fully online degree program.

Students can continue to complete a combination of online and classroom-based courses to earn degrees and certificates in more than 55 different programs.

Approval of the on line program, which President Dr. Stuart Steiner called a "landmark" in the college's thirty-five year history, means that students will be able to complete their entire General Studies degree program from their homes or offices. The program is ideal for students whose schedules do not permit them to attend traditional classes.

The college's General Studies degree program consists of liberal arts and sciences courses designed to prepare students for a wide variety of transfer and career opportunities. It is the college's most popular degree program. Students pursue courses in the social sciences, humanities, communications, and the sciences. The new online program will consist of the same mix of courses available in the classroom-based program, but students will complete courses using a combination of computer-based instruction, online discussion groups, texts and study guides, videos and one-to-one communication with faculty members.
