Charles W. Smith to lead Lakeside

After an extensive search involving more than 60 candidates, the Lakeside Health System Board of Directors has hired Charles W. Smith to replace Robert W. Harris who has retired. Smith began his new role as CEO of Lakeside Health System and President of Lakeside Memorial Hospital on August 5.

Smith brings more than 20 years of health care leadership experience and, most recently, has come to Lakeside from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rochester where he was Reimbursement Director. He also brings experience in a variety of community hospital settings including leadership roles at Maryview Health Corporation in Portsmouth, Virginia and Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, Virginia. As CEO of St. Jerome's in Batavia, he led the merger of the town's two hospitals and ultimately became the CEO of Genesee Mercy Healthcare, the new merged hospital.

He is a former partner of the Professional Healthcare Management Group in Rochester, a health care consulting firm, where he worked with a number of health systems throughout the country. He holds a master's degree in public administration from the University of Hartford and a bachelor of science degree in radiology technology and biology from Salem College in West Virginia. He lives in LeRoy, with his wife, Susan, and his son, Patrick.
