Paul Blackcloud, a Churchville native and Dartmouth College '02 , has been designated a Rufus Choate Scholar for outstanding academic achievement in the 2001-2002 academic year.

Blackcloud, son of Kristine and Claude Blackcloud of Churchville, is one of only 116 members of Dartmouth's Class of 2002 to receive the Rufus Choate Scholar distinction. Blackcloud's grade point average places him within the top five percent of the college.


Richard Kane, FIC, of Hilton, a Thrivent Financial for Lutherans financial associate, has earned the honor of membership in the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT). The MDRT is an international, independent association of leading life insurance producers.

Kane is with the West New York and Pennsylvania Regional Financial Office, Wexford, PA and serves Lutherans and their family members in the surrounding communities.


Cheryl M. Taylor, CFP, of MBK and Associates, Inc. of Rochester, has been honored with two financial services industry awards for outstanding achievements in 2001.

She received National Life President's Club award and "Circle of Excellence" awards from Mark B. Kostrzewski, President of MBK and Associates, One West Main Street, Rochester.

Both awards signify her major accomplishments last year in sales and client service of insurance and investments. The "Circle of Excellence" award honors the "Top 50" (out of 1,300) Equity Services representatives nationwide.

Taylor became an accredited Certified Financial Planner in 1998. A registered representative with Equity Services, Inc., she lives with her family in Ogden.


Hartwick College freshman Brandon M. Arva, of Spencerport, son of Pamela M. Arva and Bruce H. Arva, has been named to the spring term dean's list at Hartwick College.

Inclusion on Hartwick's dean's list is an indication of excellent academic work, including the completion of a full course load with at least 3.5 grade point average, based on a 4.0 scale.

Arva is majoring in music education.


Two area students were named Alden Scholars for the 2001-02 academic year at Allegheny College.

Heather L. Berry, daughter of Marc and Nancy Berry of Spencerport, is a graduate of Spencerport High School. She will be a senior neuroscience and psychology major at Allegheny College in the fall.

Shealyn R. Stenglein, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Stenglein of Churchville, is a graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School. She will be a junior psychology major at Allegheny College in the fall.

Alden Scholar awards are presented to students who maintained a grade point average of 3.2 or higher during the preceding academic year. The awards are named in honor of Rev. Timothy Alden, Jr., who founded the college in 1815.


Jamie Pricola of Brockport, an incoming freshman at SUNY Fredonia, has received the $1,000 Fredonia Achievement Award. She will begin a four-year degree program in early childhood education this fall.

She is a 2002 graduate of Brockport High School, and the daughter of Jim and Kathy Pricola of Brockport.


Karen Paladino, a 2001 graduate of Spencerport High School, was inducted into the Lambda Sigma Sophomore Honor Society at Gannon University, in Erie, PA. She was also named to the dean's list for the spring 2002 semester.

She is the daughter of David and Tracey Paladino of Brockport and Mary and Al Rodgers of Pittsford.


Eric James Russell of Spencerport, received a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering - mechanical engineering cum laude from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in May.


The following students were named to the Ithaca College dean's list for the spring 2002 semester.

Amanda Ginovsky '05, a performance major and resident of Sweden Hill Road, Brockport; graduate of Brockport High School.

Angela DeFelice '03, a planned studies major and resident of Peachey Road, Bergen; graduate of Byron-Bergen High School.

Emily Levitt '03, a journalism major and resident of Lawnsbury Drive, Rochester; a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.

Samantha Powley '05, an exploratory major and resident of Hutchings Road, Rochester; a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.

Darcie Schwarz '03, a drama major and resident of Jamie Lynn Drive, Churchville; a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.

Elaine Loggi '05, a performance major and resident of West Avenue, Hilton; a graduate of Hilton High School.

Mary Rogers '03, a sport studies major and resident of Westphal Drive, Hamlin; a graduate of Hilton High School.

Brandon Steinorth '03, a social studies major and resident of Rolling Meadow Drive, Hilton; a graduate of Hilton High School.

Emily Liu '05, a journalism/politics major and resident of Snowberry Crescent, Rochester; a graduate of Spencerport High School.


Patrick Reynell, a 1999 graduate of Spencerport High School, has received the recognition of having his biography published in the 25th Annual Edition of "The National Dean's List, 2001-2002." He is eligible to compete for scholarships to be awarded this year.


Nathan W. Thompson graduated from SUNY Brockport on May 18 with a bachelor of science degree in political science and a minor in international studies. He has also been commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves through SUNY Brockport ROTC.

2nd Lieutenant Thompson has been awarded the branch Field Artillery in the process of becoming a lieutenant in the United States Army. He is scheduled to conduct his 19-week Officer Basic Course Training for Field Artillery at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma in February 2003. He is a 2000 Monroe Community College graduate and a 1998 Hilton High School graduate.
