An American Story will unfold in Mumford on Labor Day weekend as visitors gather for an evening of family fun to celebrate the unofficial end of summer. The highlight of the evening will be a stunning 30-minute fireworks display with narration, music, set pieces and aerials.

"We're celebrating the origins of some of our country's greatest icons, ideals and legends," said Michelle Worden, director of special programs for the museum. "We'll explore the stories behind American icons - such as Uncle Sam - through extraordinary pyrotechnics, music and narration. There's only one other show with this unique format in the country."

The event begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 31 (rain dates are September 1 or 2) with fireworks beginning at dark. The Krazy Firemen will perform, children can play 19th century games and can have their face painted, and a variety of food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling (585) 538-6822. Space is limited. Tickets are $8.50 for the general public and $6 for Genesee Country Village & Museum members. Children 5 and younger may attend free of charge. One parking pass will be issued per reservation but additional parking passes may be purchased for $5 each. This event is sponsored by Wendy's.
