Melissa Fortunato of Rochester, has been named to the spring 2002 dean's list at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Fortunato is a pharmacy student.

Selection for this award is based on completing and passing all assigned courses with no grade below a "C" and attaining an academic average of at least 3.4 for courses taken in the spring semester of 2002.


Abby R. Curatolo of Sheldon Drive in Spencerport is taking part in an internship this summer through SUNY Oswego's Experience-Based Education Program.

Curatolo, a junior journalism major, interns at Brighton-Pittsford Post in Pittsford.


Karlee Boyd, daughter of Clayton and Janine Boyd of Holley, was awarded honors on the Marist College dean's list for the spring 2002 semester.


Tiffany Kwiatkowski, daughter of Mark and Bette Kwiatkowski, Emerald Point, Chili, has been named to the spring 2002 dean's list at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. Kwiatkowski is a sophomore psychology major.


Sherri A. Catalano, manager of the Bank of Castile's Residential Lending Department, was promoted to vice president, said Brenda L. Copeland, president and CEO.

Catalano has worked at the Bank of Castile for 2 1/2 years. She oversees all residential lending and mortgage products.

Catalano has an associate's degree in business administration from Monroe Community College and lives in Spencerport with her husband, Tony, daughter, Jamie, and son, Anthony. She is active as a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association, Greater Rochester Association of Realtors, Genesee Valley Board of Realtors, and is a board member of the New York Bankers Title Agency West.


Two Xerox Corporation researchers have been selected to participate in the Frontiers of Engineering symposium sponsored by the National Academy of Engineering for the nation's top young engineers.

Michael R. Furst and James Calamita will join 84 other engineers from industry, academia and government for a three-day symposium this fall where they will discuss pioneering technical work and leading-edge research in various engineering fields and industry sectors.

Calamita joined Xerox in 1998 and is a research and technology engineer in the Printing Platforms and Systems Engineering Group, part of the Xerox Innovation Group. For the last two years he has worked in the areas of motion quality and control. Calamita attended the University of Buffalo where he received a master of science degree and a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He is a resident of Spencerport.


Twenty-six area students were among the outstanding high school students recognized in May by SUNY College at Brockport President Paul Yu. He congratulated the 3-1-3 Program students for having achieved a college grade point average of 3.25 or higher (on a 4.0 scale, equivalent to a B+ or better).

The freshman honored from Hilton High School was Vincent Dalba of Dellwood Road, Rochester.

SUNY Brockport's 3-1-3 Program allows high school seniors to earn up to 30 credits toward their first year of a bachelor's degree before they become full-time students. Through the program, the students take a combination of SUNY Brockport approved high school courses and first-year classes at the college. Students earn college credit while cutting their first-year tuition costs by about 50 percent. And, they may transfer their credits to SUNY Brockport or other colleges in the SUNY systems and to many private colleges as well.


Marine Corps Pfc. David G. Thom, a 2001 graduate of Byron-Bergen High School, Bergen, graduated from the Machinist Course.

During the 15-week course at the Marine Corps Administrative Detachment, U.S. Army Ordinance Center and School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, students receive training on proper machine shop procedures, lathe operations, milling operations, surface and universal grinders, and the care and use of hand tools and power tools.


Marine Corps Pfc. Randi L. Read, granddaughter of Jesse and Gloria Read of Palmer Road, Churchville, graduated from the Communications Signals Collection and Processing Course at Naval Technical Training Center Corry Station, Pensacola, Florida.

Read is a 2001 graduate of Oakfield Alabama Central High School of Oakfield, and joined the Marine Corps in July 2001.


Air Force Airman Jorel J. Fudge has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of Roscoe Fudge of Redman Road, Brockport and a 1997 graduate of Brockport High School.


Air Force Airman Cullen A. Gazda has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of Michael and Diane Gazda of Wind Willow Way, Rochester, and a 2000 graduate of Dundee Central High School, NY.
