Duck Derby hits new record for entries

A record for numbers of ducks sold was set for the Brockport Summer Art Festival Duck Derby this year. A great turnout at the festival and heavy pre-sales contributed to over $32,000 raised for BISCO and Lakeside Memorial Hospital.

Duck connoisseurs flocked from all over to purchase chances to win a hot tub, trips and shopping sprees, as well as mementos such as t-shirts and duck whistles for the kids. The race was held on the canal from Brockport's Main Street Bridge to the next block bridge.

"This year, we sold more before the Art Festival than we sold all of last year," said Cindy Syrocki, BISCO committee member.

"Great prizes and solid support from area businesses and citizens really made this year special," said George Dahl, BISCO Duck Derby Chair.

More than 7,000 ducks floated down, but only ten were winners. The ducks' numbers were checked twice by hand to ensure the correct ducks would be hitting the water.

This year's lucky ducks are:
Linda Hazel - Brockport - #1668; Julie Luft - Albion - #0220; Sharon Kuhn - Kendall - #4993; Leonard Vanelli - Holley - #4953; Monroe Lodge 173 - Brockport - #3259; Bob Ryan - Brockport - #2825; Lawrence Denning - Holley - #3774; Mary Lynn Siciliano - Brockport - #2675; Judy Bies - Holley - #5702; Lift Bridge Book Shop - Brockport - #2848.

"This was Lakeside's first year of involvement in the Derby," said Jean Hawkes, VP of Lakeside Foundation. "This whole project was amazing from start to finish. We are so grateful to BISCO for offering us the opportunity to take part in this project and raise almost $14,000 for the Lakeside "Building for the Next Generation" Capital Campaign!"
