considers American electoral system

Genesee Community College is offering a luncheon lecture entitled "Unwritten Amendments: Who Really Gets to be President?" on Friday, September 13, for noon to 1:30 p.m. at Tillman's Historic Village Inn in Childs. Presenter Kirk House will review what the U.S. Constitution says about who can and cannot be president and how these requirements have changed over the past 225 years. Discussion will include the reasons behind the doomed campaigns of political figures such as Ross Perot, Jesse Jackson, George Wallace, Theodore Roosevelt, and a discussion of upcoming presidential elections. The $23 fee includes lunch and dessert. Seating is limited; pre-registration is highly recommended.

"In America, anyone can supposedly grow up to be President - but is that really true in practice?" said House. "Americans have quietly and unwittingly 'amended' their Constitution for more that 200 years. They know what they want in a President, and they know what they don't want. What are our unspoken requirements - which ones are we likely to change - and when?"

This one-and-a-half hour lecture is the first of three presentations in Genesee's fall Arts and Letters Luncheon Series, all to be held at Tillman's Historic Village Inn in Childs. Call Genesee's Orleans Campus Center at 585-589-4936 for information or to register. The fee of $23 includes a choice of three lunch entrees: petite prime rib with potato, quiche Lorraine (bacon, onion and cheese), or crab salad cold plate. Indicate selection when registering. Seating is limited.

Tillman's Historic Village Inn is located at the intersection of Routes 104 and 98 in Childs, about two miles north of Albion on NY State Route 98.
