Gina Arnone of Hilton attended Stagedoor Manor this summer, a theater camp in the Catskills. In each of the summer's three sessions the youngsters aged 8 to 17 spend three weeks rehearsing 11 shows, which are then performed for the public either at one of Stagedoor's five theaters or at one of the nearby Catskills resorts like The Raleigh or The Concord. The 15-year-old appeared in "A Piece of My Heart."


Kim Perry of Spencerport has been elected as National Vice President of Publications for the Association for Women in Computing (AWC). The association is dedicated to the advancement of women in the technology fields through networking, education, and outreach.

In her new position, Perry will provide direction and advice about AWC publications to the Board of Directors, and will manage the creation and production of AWC publications nationwide. Prior to joining the engineering and architecture firm of Passero Associates, Perry worked for Arthur Andersen as a graphic designer and marketing assistant. She is currently completing a graduate certificate in Interactive Multimedia Development at Rochester Institute of Technology, and holds a bachelor of science degree in history from SUNY Brockport.


Melissa M. Head of Brockport was awarded a bachelor of arts degree magna cum laude in Environmental Conservation from the University of New Hampshire, Durham, New Hampshire, on May 25. She also completed a minor in Zoology and was named to the dean's list all four years. Head received university honors in both her junior and senior years. At the conclusion of her junior year, she studied at the Shoals Marine Laboratory on Appledore Island, off the New Hampshire coast.

She has accepted a one year commitment with AmeriCorps* VISTA, doing volunteer coordination and education at Wilson Commencement Park in downtown Rochester. Upon completion of this commitment, she plans to pursue graduate education in environmental policy.

Head is the daughter of Donna and Pete Head of Clarkson, and is a graduate of Brockport High School.


Carolyn Streb of Hamlin and her ballroom dancing teacher of Coldwater, John Smalle, participated in competition at the Marriott Chateau Champlain in Montreal August 15 to 18. Their dances were: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Chacha, Rumba, Swing and Hustle.

Streb's awards were one gold and ten silver metals on a twelve inch in diameter silver plate.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Monroe Community College has inducted 44 of the highest achieving students at the college. The students were honored for their academic success and involvement in college and community activities.

Phi Theta Kappa is the honor society for the nation's two-year colleges. To be considered for membership, students must have earned at least 18 credits toward their degree, with at least 15 of those credits earned at MCC, and have a grade-point average of 3.75 or higher.

Cheryl Cappon of Oatka Creek Road, Churchville, has been named a 2002 Faculty Scholar at SUNY Brockport. This award for transfer students requires a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.75 and junior status. The scholarship is valued at $1,000.
