Miller, Cadets shutout Blue Devils

Goalkeeper Jarod Miller made 18 saves and Ricky Grizzanti had a goal and an assist to lead Hilton to a 2-0 win over Brockport in boy’s soccer September 3.

Both sides had their chances in the first half - the best a shot off the crossbar by Hilton’s David Chojnowski in the 33rd minute - before Grizzanti fed a pass to Kevin Burritt in the top right of the box. Burritt sent his low shot into the far corner in the 42nd minute giving the Cadets a 1-0 lead at half time. Moments after scoring, Burritt injured his ankle and did not return to the game.

Brockport buzzed around the Hilton net for most of the first 15 minutes of the second half. Kyle Burghardt had one opportunity go off the side of the net and another ten minutes later was knocked wide by the goalkeeper Miller. Blaine Hastings also had a shot off a corner kick deflect off Miller’s hand and the crossbar in the 71st minute of play.

After Brockport keeper Maurice Powell made a great save on a Hilton breakaway, the Cadets put the game away in the final minute when Grizzanti headed in a crossing pass from Chojnowski to seal the win.

"I was happy with the way we played," said Hilton head coach Paul Davis after the contest. "We have six players injured so we didn’t have a deep bench, but we hung in there and got the job done."

Brockport coach Mark Franklin said, "I thought we were the better team on the field tonight. Our bench came through in the second half and put on a lot of offensive pressure - we just couldn’t score tonight. Their goalie played great. We’re going to be an exciting team for the fans to watch this season."
Brockport is 0-1 while Hilton evened their record at 1-1-1.
