The 7th Annual Run for hospice will be held Saturday, October 19 at First Bible Baptist Church, 1039 North Greece Road, Rochester.

Runners and walkers alike can find a course that's right for them - the 10 Mile Road Race begins at 9:15 a.m.; the 5K Road Race, 2.5 Mile Fitness Walk and Wheelchair Division at 9:30 a.m.; or the half or quarter mile Children's Fun Run at 10:30 a.m.

Diehard racers can join former Olympic marathoner, John Tuttle, one of the top ranked masters runners in the United States, Diane Legare of Montreal, currently ranked #1 in the world for women in the 50 and over age group, and several world-class Kenyan runners.

In addition to participating in Rochester's premier race - ranked second only to the Lilac 10K in terms of number of runners - participants may attend the post-race party, be eligible for prizes and awards, and register for the raffle grand prize - two round trip tickets provided by Continental Airlines.

Race director Peter Van Peursem established the Run for Hospice in 1996 in honor of his mother, Helen Van Peursem. All proceeds benefit Visiting Nurse Hospice. Funds raised last year reached $19,000. In all, more than $72,000 has been donated to Visiting Nurse Hospice. Van Peursem expects more than 1,500 participants this year.

Entry fees for the 5K, 10 Miler and Fitness Walk are $15 postmarked by October 12; $18 postmarked after October 12. Day of the race fee is $20. Those registered by October 18 will automatically be eligible to win one of hundreds of door prizes. Online registration closes October 18, but those registered online by October 12 will eligible to win door prizes. Visit the Run for Hospice website at www.runforhospice.com to register online.
