Stacy E. McCullough, daughter of Michael and Janine McCullough of Spencerport, recently began studies at Allegheny College, Meadville, Pennsylvania.

McCullough is a graduate of Spencerport High School. Allegheny also named McCullough a Trustee Scholar, an achievement-based award for students with strong academic records, usually from the top 10 percent of their high school classes, or other distinguished achievements.


Bishop Matthew H. Clark of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester has appointed Irene Goodwin as Pastoral Administrator of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, Scottsville, effective Sunday, September 22, 2002. Goodwin is currently serving as Pastoral Associate at Holy Ghost Parish, Gates, and resides in Hilton.


Amanda Boyd of Hamlin has received the 2002 Domino's Eagle Award from SUNY College at Brockport. While a student at Brockport High School, Boyd had a grade point average of 94, was on the honor roll and was active in several school clubs. Boyd entered SUNY Brockport as a freshman this semester.

Domino's Eagle scholars must have graduated from Brockport High School in the top 25 percent of their class, have a grade point average of 88 or better, and a 1040 SAT or 23 ACT score.

This scholarship is funded by Mark Gaisser, owner of the Domino's Pizza franchise on Lake Road in the Village of Brockport, and is valued at $1,000.


Nikole Van Wie, age 7, of Brockport, daughter of Mark and Tina Van Wie, placed first at I Love Dance competition in Rochester this summer, and at the Orleans County Fair. She placed in the top 25 out of 225 performers in the semifinal round at the New York State Fair.


The Monroe Community College Board of Trustees has hired the following individuals:

S. Tobie Hewitt Ives, North Chili, has joined MCC as an instructor with the English and Philosophy Department. She holds a M.F.A. from Brooklyn College and a master of arts degree and bachelor of arts degree from SUNY Brockport.

Eileen Lanzafame, Hilton, has been hired as a transitional studies instructor. Lanzafame holds a M.S. in education and human development from SUNY Brockport and a bachelor of arts in English from LeMoyne College.

Sandra McCormack, Churchville, has been hired as an instructor in the Office and Computer Programs Department. She holds her M.S. in management programs from Nazareth College and her bachelor of science in biology from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Robert C. Mills, Byron, has been hired as an instructor of engineering technology. Mills holds a master of science degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a bachelor of science degree from SUNY Buffalo.

Deneen Rhode, Brockport, has been hired as an instructor of health and physical education. Rhode earned an M.A. in somatic therapies from SUNY Brockport, an M.A. in fine arts from the University of Utah, and bachelor of science in massage therapy from New York Institute of Massage.

Donald Smith, Hilton, has been hired as an instructor of biology. He holds his D.C. from the New York Chiropractic College and his associate's degree from Monroe Community College.

The Monroe Community College Board of Trustees has promoted the following individuals:

Ellen Baker, Spencerport, has been promoted to assistant professor, transitional studies. She has worked at MCC since 1995. Baker holds a M.S. from SUNY Brockport and a B.S. from Ashland University.

Andrew Freeman, North Chili, has been promoted to associate professor, admissions. He holds a M.P.A. from Penn State University, a B.S. from Bowling Green University, and an associate's degree from Monroe Community College. Freeman has been a member of the faculty since 1991.

James Maley, Hilton, has been promoted to associate professor, law and criminal justice. Maley holds a M.A. from John Jay College and a B.A. from St. John Fisher. He has been employed at Monroe Community College since 1993.

Ernest Mellas, Hamlin, has been promoted to associate professor, biology. Mellas, a faculty member since 1993, holds a M.S. from SUNY Brockport and a B.A. from SUNY Buffalo.


The following students enrolled at Syracuse University were named academic peer advisors for the College of Visual and Performing Arts for the 2002-03 academic year:

Richard Ugino, of Bitteroot Trail, Hilton, a junior majoring in musical theatre; and

Natalie Jones, of Forest Meadow Trail, Rochester, a senior majoring in music education. Jones is also serving as a peer advisor for the School of Education.


The following area student spent the summer abroad through Syracuse University's Division of International Programs Abroad.

Joseph Luciano, of Greenridge Crescent, Hamlin, a freshman majoring in information technology at Rochester Institute of Technology, participated in the Italian Language program.


Nathan J. Dolce has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Washington.

He is the son of Catherine Castiglia of North Road, Victor, and Fred Dolce of Kendall Road, Kendall.


Marine Corps Sgt. Michael A. Voegel, son of Katie M. Voegel, of Teaberry Drive, Spencerport, recently completed a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Voegel's unit is an expeditionary intervention force with the ability to rapidly organize for combat operations in virtually any environment. MEUs are composed of more than 2,000 personnel and are divided into an infantry battalion, aircraft squadron, support group and command element. With this combination, Voegel's unit supplies and sustains itself for either quick mission accomplishment or clearing the way for the follow-on forces.

Voegel is a 1994 graduate of Mynderse Academy of Seneca Falls, and joined the Marine Corps in October 1994.


Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Mark P. Holden, son of Angela A. and Craig L. Holden of Lyndale Drive, Rochester, recently returned from a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Enduring Freedom while assigned to the guided missile cruiser USS Hue City, homeported in Mayport, Florida.

Holden was one of more than 10,000 Atlantic Fleet sailors and marines aboard the ships of the USS John F. Kennedy Carrier Battle Group and USS Wasp Amphibious Ready Group participating in joint-service, multi-national operations in the U.S.-led war against terrorism.

Holden is a 1995 graduate of Gates Chili High School and joined the Navy in November 1998.


Army Lt. Col. Scott G. Ciluffo is attending the Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. At the Army's senior officer school, the 12-month curriculum prepares officers and civilian officials of the federal government for top level command and staff positions with the U.S. armed forces throughout the world.

Ciluffo has 20 years of military service. He was previously assigned to the U. S. Army Safety Center at Fort Rucker, Enterprise, Alabama.

He is the son of Dr. William E. and Carol R. Ciluffo of Hidden Valley Road, Rochester.

The lieutenant colonel graduated in 1978 from Gates Chili High School, Rochester.
